About this opportunity:

The Senior Manager, Project Controls position will work across the Turnaround, Major Maintenance, and Construction portfolios. The role is responsible for defining, managing, and mitigating cost and schedule risks on projects. The Senior Manager, Project Controls provides a comprehensive view of the progress of projects and turnaround operations to ensure that teams are safely working within the confines of set deadlines and budget limitations.

What you’ll do:

Drive budget and schedule compliance. Hold Cenovus and Contractors accountable by supplying accurate data. Turnaround budget of approximately $170 million. Maintenance OPEX budget of approximately $135 million. Expense Projects may range from $25 to $50 million

Manage a team of cost analyst, a schedular, and 6 contract controls specialists

Work closely with Lima and Corporate SCM teams to develop proper contract agreements

Review invoices for accuracy before approving to pay

Supply data to support invoice disputes

Work closely with Major Maintenance, Expense Projects, Maintenance OPEX and Turnaround Managers to define project parameters including safety, budget, and timelines

Lead and manage the ongoing monitoring of individual projects to track projects against its own parameters (resources, timelines, budgets)

Create and implement regular status updates on project parameters as required by Turnaround, Major Maintenance and Construction Managers for meetings with the Maintenance and Construction Director

Liaise with the Finance department periodically to maintain awareness of the current state of project control parameters specific to Major Maintenance, Expense Projects, Maintenance OPEX and Turnaround operations

Oversee responses to ad hoc requests for information project controls inquiries across the Major Maintenance, Expense Projects, Maintenance OPEX and Turnaround function

Partner with Supply Chain Management to organize and define contract parameters for specific and multi-functional agreements

Manage and lead a structured and dynamic project controls team that supports Major Maintenance, Expense Projects, Maintenance OPEX and Turnaround organizations

Collaborate closely with refinery and corporate leadership to ensuring goals and objectives are met

Who you are:

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Ten years of experience in petrochemical environment

Minimum five years of refinery cost and schedule controls experience

Minimum of five years of experience in Project Management including project planning, scheduling, cost estimating and managing contracts for engineering firms and contractors

Experience using SAP, P6, PIMs, Track, Power BI, Excel, and PowerPoint

Strategic understanding of Major Maintenance & Construction and Turnaround operations

Superior analytical skills to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions/recommendations

Ability to work in a team environment dealing with people from various subject areas to achieve total turnaround success

Strong leadership orientation that includes coaching, development of staff, and guidance of individuals toward goal achievement

Strong accounting software capabilities

Understanding of project management processes

Familiar with contracts of services and materials

Cost estimating experience
