About the Role

The Senior Category Manager, Software Licensing will represent the Global Software Licensing team and manage multiple Categories for Embedded Software, Engineering Services, Trademarks and Patents. This role naturally brings high visibility within the company and challenging environment by negotiating with larger, well know tech-companies. This rapidly growing area requires a balanced focus on product, cost structure, and market intelligence for advanced software and new emerging technologies such as System Platforms, Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS), Telematics, Vehicle-to-X (V2X). This role will manage global licensing supply base including contracts, commercial/pricing, terms and condition, innovation and risk mitigation. The successful candidate will develop and execute category strategies and align them with HARMAN business units, Product Development, Engineering, and Legal. 


What You Will Do

Sourcing of embedded software licenses, patents, online services and trademarksManage Request for Quotation (RFQ) and licensor selection processesManage supplier negotiations, contracts terms and conditions to achieve best-pricing for HARMANOwn and drive commercial terms for Embedded Software, Services, Trademarks and Patents which includes re-structuring business models to achieve best possible terms for HARMANNegotiate and execute licensing agreements with suppliers in cooperation with business stakeholders and legalThe role requires a sophisticated level of relationship management interfacing with CEOs and business presidents of global suppliers, requiring balancing of interests to maintain mutually beneficial relationships.Create make or buy analysis in consideration of alternative system designs/solutionsIdentify and support synergies with our parent company Samsung regarding licenses, online services, trademarks, and other IPs throughout multiple departments inside HARMANCooperate with our sales organization, product development, finance, and program managementSupport technical discussions between licensors and internal interfaces to ensure requirements are met by suppliers at the best possible commercial termsContinuous cost and quality improvementsPreparation and presentation of reports and status updates for internal customers and managementSearch and identification of new and alternative licensors and suppliersOwnership of licensor/partner relationshipsSupport license determination by Program Management with coordination support of Program Management Office

What You Need

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Legal, Computer Science, Engineering, or Supply ChainMinimum of 8+ years of previous work experience in commercial software licensing is a mustExperienced with software, online services and patents, automotive supply-chains, and requirementsCapability to design software sourcing processesStrong negotiation and relationship building skills.Ability to translate complex technical requirements into compelling business recommendationsPassion for new technologies, software and connected servicesAbility to negotiate contract terms of license agreements

What is Nice to Have

Prior experience at a technology companyPrior experience working with product management for a technology company and good knowledge of the software product development lifecycleSW Engineering or other technical experienceContract Law knowledge
