From your PASSION to ours
Lactalis USA (LUSA) is seeking aSenior Manager, Sustainable Agriculture, to drive sustainability initiatives across our supply chain. This role will develop and implement strategies to measure and improve on-farm sustainability, aligning with our brand and business objectives. Collaborating closely with sourcing, sustainability, marketing, and sales teams, this person will help communicate our commitment to sustainable agriculture to customers and consumers. The goals of this work are to keep Stonyfield’s brand at the forefront of sustainable, organic agriculture and advance the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of all the farms that supply LUSA’s ingredients.
As a key member of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team, this role will work across business units to advance Lactalis’ global sustainability goals, with a focus on organic milk and ingredient sourcing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental challenges in agriculture and the ability to engage both farmers and business stakeholders to drive scalable solutions.
From your EXPERTISE to ours
Key responsibilities for this position include:
+ Develop and implement strategies for LUSY’s achievement of Lactalis’ global goals and Stonyfield’s brand goals as they pertain to organic agriculture. At the global level, Lactalis has a Science-Based Target that includes emissions from Forest, Land Use, and Agriculture (FLAG), and it has global CSR KPIs that include goals on animal welfare. At the LUSY level, Stonyfield maintains its own SBT specific to the brand and has its own ambitious goals set across its mission pillars of Climate, Protection from Toxins, Packaging, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Together with the Senior Director of Sustainability and the LUSY Milk Team.
+ Implement Lactalis’ and Stonyfield’s brand agriculture strategy for reducing GHG emissions in line with their respective science-based targets, including strategies for increasing soil carbon sequestration and reducing emissions from enteric fermentation, manure, feed, and energy usage. Together with the LUSY Milk team, develop and deploy strategies to engage Stonyfield’s brand direct supply farms in emissions reduction activities and track participation and results. This includes the initiation and coordination of peer learning groups, technical assistance, and field data collection. Identify and implement strategies for monitoring, reporting, and verification of emissions reduction activities, together with external stakeholders as needed.
+ Monitor the strategy, accounting, and reporting associated with Stonyfield’s brand’s Forest, Land, and Agriculture Guidance (FLAG) target. In collaboration with the purchasing team, develop tracking systems and programs to meet the zero-deforestation target, in line with SBT. Manage data collection for Stonyfield’s brand’s annual GHG inventory as it pertains to milk and other ingredients, including climate data collection across LUSY’s organic milk supply. Track progress towards emissions reduction goals and bring forward strategy modifications as needed to keep Stonyfield’s brand on track towards GHG reduction goals for dairy.
+ Coordinate data collection for organic milk for Lactalis Global CSR KPIs for dairy in coordination with the global Lactalis Milk CSR team and the LUSY milk team. Attend global and USA Milk CSR working group meetings to maintain alignment with LUSY, Stonyfield’s brand, and Lactalis’ US and global sustainability strategy and programs. Develop and maintain carbon reduction project roadmaps and complete associated reporting for Lactalis Milk CSR project.
+ Be a key member of the Stonyfield Mission Action Team. Lead the development and deployment of goals and strategies related to Stonyfield’s brand’s mission pillars of Climate, Protection from Toxins, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Serve as a key liaison to LUSY leaders in Marketing, Sales, and PR to ensure business alignment with mission-related activities and incorporation of the mission into brand communications. Identify opportunities to advance responsible sourcing strategies across LUSY’s ingredient portfolio, in coordination with the Purchasing team.
+ Stay current on research and trends in organic and sustainable agriculture; synthesize organic and agricultural research to identify its relevance to Stonyfield’s brand and disseminate the information to LUSA and LUSY employees and farmers as needed; communicate and collaborate with the organic dairy and broader agricultural research community to identify and advance priority areas for research.
+ Develop and conduct training events and farm tours for LUSY employees and customers on organic agriculture and the Stonyfield mission. Together with the LUSA CSR Team, develop and conduct training events for LUSA employees on other topics related to Lactalis’ sustainability goals.
+ Support the LUSY PR and consumer relations team in communicating about organic and sustainable agriculture to customers, consumers, and media, including supporting the compilation of the annual impact report for Stonyfield’s brand. Represent LUSY at public events, including speaking engagements.
+ Respond to customer sustainability reporting requests in collaboration with the LUSA CSR team.
+ Support LUSY’s engagement in public policy advocacy related to organic and sustainable agriculture at the state and federal levels.
+ Oversee the Sustainability Intern, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and overall coordination, ensuring alignment with company policies and applicable laws.
From your STORY to ours
Qualified applicants will contribute the following:
+ A bachelor's degree in natural resources, environmental science, business, or related field is required; master's degree preferred.
+ 5+ years of relevant experience in sustainable agriculture, environmental management, or a related field is required.
+ Experience with farm-level data collection and management, including tools such as Cool Farm Tool, FarmES, COMET, or other farm-level GHG emissions assessment methods, is required; soil sampling experience is a plus.
+ Proven ability to plan, track, analyze, and communicate data to support business decisions.
+ Strong experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and employees at all levels of an organization.
+ Knowledge of agriculture’s environmental impact, including climate change, biodiversity, and water resources, is required.
+ Experience working on farms, with farmers, or within the agricultural research community is required. Familiarity with the organic standard is preferred.
+ Strong analytical, strategic, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to transition between strategic and tactical roles.
+ Excellent writing, research, and verbal communication skills.
+ Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability and willingness to learn new web- and mobile-based software and train others, including farmers, on its use.
+ Ability to travel up to 25% per month may be required.
+ Ability to work extended hours based on project demands.
