The Senior Manager, Sustaining Process Engineering drives and develops a team of technical Engineers and Scientists, performing a variety of activities in support of manufacturing operations including process development, manufacturability engineering, and process improvement. Working cross-functionally, this team in Process Engineering, Sustaining, will assist the Operations organization to achieve product availability, business continuity and VIP goals.
Reporting to our Director of Process Development Engineering, this is a working manager role with responsibilities for both engineering activities and management oversight specifically for our sustaining engineering processes.
This is a fully onsite position in San Diego, CA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead a team of process engineers and scientists to sustain and improve the core business, focused on creation, validation, and maintenance / troubleshooting of manufacturing processes used in Hologic’s Molecular Diagnostic and Lateral Flow commercialized products. Sustain the core business by : Taking the lead on investigating non-conforming events (NCE) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPAs) Dispositioning product based on a thorough investigation, using robust data analysis and maintaining utmost product quality Improve the core business by implementing technical and business processes by : Assessing manufacturing operations and implementing process improvements including but not limited to scale-ups / scale-downs / raw material changes / automation / VIPs Defining process validation / raw material qualification strategies Leading discussions to assess right sizing the manufacturing operations by proactively walking the floor, conducting technical / business reviews and ensuring accurate BOMs / Routings Lead a team of process engineers and scientists by : Demonstrating and promoting a culture of cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement Developing the team by defining goals, empowering the team, and promoting a growth mindsetRequired Education:
BS, MS, or PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or related fieldRequired Experience:
8-10+ years’ experience in an IVD or pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing environment 5+ years’ experience in leading and developing technical teamsRequired Skills/Knowledge:
Extensive experience with : All aspects of NAAT manufacturing such as oligonucleotide synthesis, bulking / filling / lyophilization, packaging and shipping with manual / semi-automated and automated process, as applicable Leading process validation and root cause investigation efforts Improving and implementing existing QMS processes & procedures Familiarity with Lateral Flow assays is highly desirableThe annualized base salary range for this role is $146,900 to $244,800 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs, and market demand.
