Position Summary
The Morehouse School of Medicine ( MSM ) seeks an experienced and results-oriented Senior Manager of Technology Infrastructure to lead the school’s IT infrastructure’s planning, implementation, and operational management. This position is critical for ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of the technology systems that support the school’s academic, research, and clinical missions.
The Senior Manager will oversee network architecture, server infrastructure, cloud environments, and cybersecurity protocols, ensuring that the MSM’s IT infrastructure meets its current and future needs. The role requires a demonstrated combination of technical expertise, leadership abilities, and strategic vision to drive innovation and operational efficiency in a growing academic medical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Leadership:
+ Infrastructure Management: Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of the school’s IT infrastructure, including on-premises data centers, cloud environments, networks, and enterprise systems.
+ Network and Systems Architecture: Ensure the availability, scalability, and security of the MSM’s network and server infrastructure, supporting critical applications for research, education, and administration.
+ Cloud Integration: Manage the integration and optimization of cloud services, such as AWS , Azure, or Google Cloud, to support research initiatives, collaboration, and administrative functions.
+ Performance Monitoring: Implement monitoring tools and performance management systems to ensure that network and server systems are reliable, with minimal downtime and optimal performance.
+ Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and manage disaster recovery plans and business continuity strategies to ensure the school’s operations remain uninterrupted during system failures or security incidents.
Cybersecurity and Compliance:
+ Security Leadership: Oversee the implementation of robust cybersecurity protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems ( IDS / IPS ), encryption, and multi-factor authentication.
+ Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, such as HIPAA , FERPA , and other relevant federal and institutional guidelines.
+ Security Audits and Assessments: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security audits to identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
+ Incident Response: Manage security incidents, including data breaches, ensuring timely and effective responses to minimize risk and data loss.
Team Management and Leadership:
+ Team Oversight: Lead a team of network administrators, systems engineers, and infrastructure specialists, ensuring they are adequately trained and aligned with the school’s strategic objectives.
+ Staff Development: Mentor and support the professional development of team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing IT team.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with the Director of IT, faculty, staff, and clinical departments to ensure infrastructure systems support the medical school’s educational, research, and clinical needs.
+ Vendor Management: Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality IT services. Oversee procurement and contract negotiations for hardware, software, and services.
Strategic Planning and Innovation:
+ Strategic Infrastructure Planning: Work with senior IT leadership to develop long-term infrastructure strategies that align with the medical school’s growth and technology needs.
+ Innovation and Optimization: Explore new technologies and methods to optimize IT infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs.
+ Capital and Operating Budget Management: Prepare and manage the IT infrastructure budget, ensuring efficient use of financial and human resources.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
+ 6+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure management, with a strong understanding of network architecture, server management, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity.
+ Experience in a mid-sized higher education institution, medical school, or healthcare environment is highly desirable.
+ We have a proven track record in managing and securing complex IT systems, including hybrid cloud environments, enterprise networks, and critical data systems.
+ Strong knowledge of compliance requirements for academic medical centers, including HIPAA , FERPA , and other relevant regulations.
+ Experience leading teams, managing projects, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to meet organizational goals.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
+ IT certifications include Cisco Certified Network Professional ( CCNP ), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert ( MCSE ), and AWS Solutions Architect.
+ Experience managing IT infrastructure projects in an academic medical setting, including research and clinical environments.
+ Familiarity with learning management systems ( LMS ), research computing platforms, and electronic medical record ( EMR ) systems.
+ Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and network security tools ( IDS / IPS , VPNs, etc.).
+ Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with a track record of fostering a collaborative and innovative IT environment.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment.
