The Role
Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Senior Claims Manager to support our Risk Management department. The ideal candidate will oversee and manage general liability and property damage claims, develop claims strategies, and implement effective claims programs. This role will involve coordinating with Third Party Adjusters (TPA), handling in-house claims, and supporting community operations with risk management processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Claims Management:
Determine Legal Liability: Assess legal and third-party liability allegations, including premises liability, to develop and execute claims strategies.
Claims Assignment: Allocate claims to TPAs based on the severity and complexity of each case.
TPA Oversight: Monitor TPA progress, set case strategies, and approve reserves and settlement recommendations as needed.
Policy Review: Analyze insurance and contract language for coverage eligibility.
In-House Claims Adjustment: Manage in-house claims, making decisions on resolution or denial.
Risk Transfer Claims: Tender claims to responsible parties using contract language.
Litigation Oversight: Collaborate with outside counsel on litigation strategy, reserves, and settlements; participate in mediations and trials as required.
Claims Reporting: Prepare reports to evaluate loss reserves, forecasts, and allocations; coordinate actuarial data collection.
Property Claims: Handle property claims under deductible limits and work with carriers on larger claims.
Team Mentoring: Train and supervise team members, assist Claims Analysts with incident reviews, and provide guidance.
Risk Management:
Risk Identification: Identify company risks and exposures, and assist in the development of risk management processes.
Research & Recommendations: Evaluate and recommend risk management, insurance, safety, and claims management solutions.
Trend Analysis: Analyze claims data to identify trends and opportunities for loss and safety improvements.
RMIS Support: Assist in maintaining the Risk Management Information System and oversee vendor management.
Community Operations Support: Consult on risk management issues, track incident reports, provide training, and respond to inquiries.
Crisis Response: Participate in the crisis response team, provide after-hours support, and oversee catastrophic claims/events.
Non-Essential Functions:
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
10+ years in claims adjusting/handling and administration.
Experience with first and third-party general liability claims.
Licenses/Certifications:
Associate in Claims (AIC) or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) preferred, but not mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with workers' compensation claims is a plus.
Strong understanding of legal and premises liability theories.
Comprehensive knowledge of claims procedures, regulations, and insurance laws.
Ability to interpret insurance policies and assess coverage.
Proficiency in reviewing contracts for viable risk transfer opportunities.
Experience with claims management systems and supervision of claim professionals.
Leadership and decision-making capabilities, especially for managing catastrophic injuries.
Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
