The American Express Global Privacy Oversight team are trusted advisors on the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles. We work to raise privacy awareness, drive compliance with both internal privacy policies and regulatory expectations across the organization globally and establish privacy as a strategic differentiator for the American Express brand.

As a second line of defense function, Global Privacy oversee, provide expertise in, and challenge the identification, management, and mitigation of privacy risks across the company in line with the privacy framework and the company’s vision to provide the world’s best customer experience every day.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Global Privacy Oversight is looking for a Senior Manager of Privacy Risk Management to drive development, implementation and oversight of the privacy risk management a global privacy risk management framework, governing standards, capabilities, and risk assessment methodologies.

This role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in privacy laws, regulations and emerging trends.  You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and embed privacy practices across the enterprise. 

Core Responsibilities include:

•        Privacy Risk Management Strategy:

o   Develop and execute a comprehensive privacy risk management framework that aligns with American Express Data Privacy and Protection Principles and global regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).  

o   Identify and assess privacy risk exposures across different processes, products, and operations. 

o   Develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure integration into enterprise risk management processes.  

•        Privacy Regulatory Monitoring:

o   Keep abreast of privacy laws, regulations, and industry standards globally. Monitor external privacy landscape and internal company changes (e.g., business strategies, operations) for impact to privacy risk assessments. 

•        Technology and Innovation:

o   Collaborate with privacy subject matter experts, business teams, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to gather and document requirements, define system specifications, and develop scalable and efficient solutions. 

o   Partner with technology teams to implement privacy-enhancing technologies. 

o   Monitor performance and reliability of technology solutions supporting privacy risk assessments and work with Product Owners on remediating defects and implementing efficiencies.

•        Governance:

o   Develop guidance documents, job aids and visual process flows to support users on how to use the assessment tools effectively. 

o   Respond to examinations and audit requests related to the privacy risk assessment design and execution. 

o   Develop and deliver training to users on privacy risk assessment content and use of the tools/technology. 

o   Regular review and assessment of Privacy Risk management effectiveness. 

•        Leadership and Collaboration:

o   Mentor and guide a team of privacy risk professionals 

o   Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote a cohesive approach to privacy risk management. 

Minimum Qualifications

·        Education:

o   Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Law, Risk Management, or a related field.  

·        Experience:

o   5+ years in privacy, risk management, compliance or a related field with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications

o   Experience in a Globally Systemically Important Bank (GSIB) or similar highly regulated global financial institution is a strong advantage. 

o   Privacy certifications such as CIPP, CIPM or CIPT are preferred.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
