The Strategic Partnerships and Resource Group (SPRG) drives Public-Private Partnership projects (PPP), which includes competitive tender Grants, where governmental agency or non-governmental funding or in-kind contributions are considered by the RD organization. Critically, SPRG ensures consistency and compliance in contracts and grants across the organization for the benefit of JJ and its external partners. SPRG supports different RD teams across JJ during the evaluation, ensuring the external resource is an appropriate strategic fit to our RD priorities and that all risks, terms and conditions are evaluated before any engagement is made. In addition, SPRG takes ownership to support the projects End-To-End, from idea generation, submission, and execution to close-out and auditing.

The Strategic Partnerships and Resource Group has been re-positioned to better align with the two sectors, pivot capabilities from our legacy in Infectious Diseases and Vaccines towards additional Innovative Medicine (IM) Therapeutic Areas, Enabling technologies (e.g. data sciences) and Drug Discovery as well as elevate our organizational leadership impact to drive engagement with EMEA senior RD leaders across IM to amplify strategic partnerships and resources for JJ
Consequently, SPRG is seeking an experienced leader to engage with senior RD Leaders located in Beerse, Belgium (our largest IM RD facility) in IM RD.
The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, global team steeped in a culture of collaboration, problem solving, risk assessment and compliance.
Position summary:
Reporting to the Director, Senior Focus Area Leader for IM RD, the Senior Manager, Focus Area Leader (FAL) IM RD EMEA, will lead and direct in a matrix environment, the SPRG IM RD strategy and its engagement with senior IM RD leaders primarily located in Beerse/wider Europe. This role is responsible for securing, maximizing and sustaining strategic PPPs to amplify resources for European IM RD priority projects. This includes setting the right leadership tone to ensure that SPRG and its extended Legal, IP and HCC team ensure compliance across JJ for PPPs within the corporate risk environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and strategic direction for all European IM RD SPRG projects in our portfolio and is viewed as a highly valuable resource by peers for the European IM RD organization. Where the portfolio projects are global or two sector in nature, the Senior Manager will ensure seamless collaboration with the relevant leader and other team members.Guides other colleagues through consultation, mentoring, and collaborative leadership to build depth of capability, and provides functional (matrix) supervision.Foster a purpose-driven culture aligned with Our Credo values and leadership imperatives. Champions inclusion, diversity and belonging.Act as primary point of contact for senior European IM RD leaders and external stakeholders in life science RD agencies.Contribute to planning of strategic partnership initiatives and oversee timelines, approvals and communications when required. Accountable for remaining up to date on awarding agency’s areas of RD interest as they relate to JJ RD business partners goals and objectives and help shape external partnership opportunities accordingly.In alignment with other SPRG Focus Area Leaders, be accountable for a ‘key account’ strategy towards the most critical external funding agencies in which JJ has a deep history of partnership. Examples include National Institute for Health (NIH), Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) and Flemish Life Science Agency (VLAIO).Propose new approaches for creating strategic partnerships, alliances and channels in alignment with Legal, IP experts, HCC, finance and the business partner.Maintain standards of partner service delivery and satisfaction via regular check-ins with senior European RD leaders.Drive efficient operations, resources, budget and talent to meet organizational objectives.
