Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Senior Manager, Project Management Unit. The position can be fully remote from a US-based location or hybrid within a commutable distance to either one of our office locations in Winooski, VT or Arlington, VA.
Position Description: The Project Management Unit (PMU) is focused on ensuring that project teams and project management teams (PMTs) have the tools, capacity, and support they need to effectively manage and implement projects. The PMU provides ongoing and surge support, as well as strategic advice and guidance, throughout the project lifecycle and across Tetra Tech’s project portfolio. In addition, the PMU supports development, updating, and refinement of our project management and implementation processes and systems and contributes to training and coaching for home office and project staff.
Senior Managers are experienced members of the PMU team with demonstrated ability to provide project management expertise and leadership. Senior Managers may serve as Project Manager (PM) or Deputy Project Manager (DPM) on large and complex projects. Senior Managers contribute to the development and delivery of project management trainings, as well as provide input and leadership on efforts to build, refine, and strengthen project management processes and systems. Senior Managers may act as skill coaches for new staff and will supervise early and mid-career PMU staff.

Responsibilities:
* Serve as a trainer, resource, and skills coach on project management for PMU and sector staff;
* Support development, coordination, and delivery of project management training curriculum, including serving as trainer for PM 101 sessions;
* Provide management support and advice to PMTs to address project management issues;
* As needed, serve as DPM or PM on long-term or acting basis on projects within Tetra Tech’s portfolio;
* Work with content owners and other PMU staff to help ensure that project management processes and systems are up-to-date and streamlined;
* Support roll-out of new policies, processes, and systems, including communications, support for users, and follow-up to ensure compliance;
* Help troubleshoot implementation or compliance issues that arise on specific projects or across the portfolio;
* Provide surge support to PMTs and project teams at critical times like start-up, close-out, staffing changes, etc.;
* As needed, travel to project sites to work with project teams, support events, or help fill short-term staffing needs, and support project start-up and close-out tasks;
* Help coordinate recruitment, onboarding, and orientation for new PMU staff;
* Assist with organization of opportunities for PMTs and project teams to share lessons learned and discuss implementation issues across teams, including monthly project management meetings;
* May take on special project management initiatives as requested;
* Supervise some early and mid-career PMU staff.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
* Minimum bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a field related to international development or one of the firm’s practice areas, master’s degree preferred;
* Minimum of 8 years of experience with international development, with experience in both home office and project positions preferred;
* Minimum of 4 years of experience working with USAID-funded contracts, with a thorough understanding of USAID rules and regulations;
* Demonstrated experience providing training and/or coaching to increase capacity on project management;
* Demonstrated strengths in problem-solving, teamwork, time management, and attention to detail;
* Fluency in English required; proficiency in a second language, such as Arabic, French, or Spanish strongly preferred;
* Ability to work in multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural teams, with strong communication skills;
* Availability for short-term international travel to developing, transitioning, and post-conflict countries;
* High level proficiency in MS Office applications;
* Current US work authorization is required at the time of application.
