Senior Manager Health Safety and Environment, SSA

Health and Safety is no accident!!!

CHEP is looking for a Driven, Inspiring and Transformational Leader based in Durban.

Position Purpose:  Lead the Safety-First strategy and Security plans across a geographically dispersed team to support the business activities within Brambles group including field-based employees, and in particular those personnel situated in Sub-Saharan Africa and future locations with the ambition of zero harm to people, zero negative environmental impact, and protected assets through effective security standards.

Responsibilities:

Lead the Sub-Saharan Africa HSE teams to accomplish the following for HSE and Security:

Ensure global strategic initiatives and programs for standardization and continuous improvement are effectively executed in the region.Maintain the legal and corporate compliance policies and standards and requirements associated with the business activities within the SSA business.Provide visible and thought leadership to keep people safe from harm and protect the security of our assets.Support the regional risk committee to assess the rating of risks for HSE matters.Provide advice and guidance to the senior leadership to facilitate the strategic and tactical decisions required to improve performance.Ensure plant equipment, tools and processes are designed and implemented safely.Monitor and assess Management Systems and develop and maintain procedures and documentary items.Provide support in corrective actions identified during internal and or external audits.Promote Safety Differently human and organizational performance ethos.Embed safety culture through active leadership by building competency and knowledge within the organization.Sponsor focused initiatives such as the Learning Team approach, GEMBA walks (physical and virtual) to learn how safety conditions can be continually improved.Produce information and reports per established schedules.Ensure incidents are investigated and reported according to Bramble’s policy.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in safety or similar degree program

Desirable Qualifications: 

Professionally recognized certifications in HSE

Experience

10+ years safety role as individual contributor and or manager of people.

5+ years as people manager, preferably remote geographic management team.

Skills and Knowledge

Relevant knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulationsHighly skilled in EHS systemsSkilled communicator, oral and written, effective presentations at all levels.Experience in delivering transformation

Degree and equivalent - Risk Management

Preferred Level of Work Experience

7 - 10 years
