Senior Manufacturing Accountant

Avegant is seeking a Manufacturing Account to contribute to building our manufacturing accounting processes as we bring our cutting-edge augmented reality display technology to market. The position will be best filled by a highly-motivated person with 5-7 years of senior accounting experience, with a focus on manufacturing or cost accounting in fast-paced or dynamic environments. This position will be responsible for developing and driving the full manufacturing / costing accounting function of the organization, with an emphasis on building out processes and systems as the company scales. This is a great opportunity to help a late-stage startup commercialize a revolutionary technology in a fast-growing field. This position will work closely with our engineering, sales, finance, and operations teams. This position reports to the Accounting Manager.
It is anticipated that this role will initially be approximately 65-70% focused on manufacturing accounting and 30-35% general accounting.
This is a full time position, with a salary range of $110,000-$130,000, depending on experience. Other benefits include stock options, full medical, dental, vision benefits, 401k matching, unlimited PTO, office snacks, and team lunches.
While the role is a hybrid role, there is an expectation that you will spend regular time in the office to build relationships and trust with the team. Our office is an open workspace, dog-friendly, located in San Mateo, CA, within walking distance of Caltrain.
Responsibilities:
Refine and maintain existing full-cycle backflush R&D prototype inventory, COGS, and costing systems within ERP and integrated cloud software to ensure accurate tracking and reporting across all stages of production. Lead cross-functional collaboration with Accounting, Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, and Fulfillment teams to develop Avegant’s cost system: inventory, COGS, and costing systems in ERP, including COA, Purchase Orders, BOM, assemblies, and other cost processes for commercial products. Own full-cycle manufacturing accounting for commercial products, including purchasing, material usage, labor costs, overhead, WIP, finished goods, COGS, inventory, month-end close, various financial reporting and variance analysis. Transition to turnkey when applicable. (Work with Engineering, contract manufacturing and other departments as necessary.) Manage full reconciliation of manufacturing-related GL accounts, including inventory, COGS, fixed assets, direct/indirect cost expenses, and other income/expense and balance sheet accounts. Oversee month-end close processes related to manufacturing and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and reconciled. Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts as they relate to manufacturing, ensuring alignment with financial goals and operational requirements. Apply U.S. GAAP in a manufacturing environment: Prepare financial reports, perform account reconciliations, maintain the general ledger, assist with tax filings, and support audit preparations. Drive process automation by identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions that enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy. Manage fixed asset accounting, including asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and capital project cost allocation as it relates to manufacturing. Own Cost of Revenue/Cost of Sales allocations as NRE activities and relevant job costs increase. Ensure accurate inventory valuation on the balance sheet, including necessary reserves and adjustments to comply with accounting standards. Evaluate company goals—both short- and long-term—recommend and implement cost accounting systems to drive financial performance and support strategic objectives. Ad-hoc activities as required: fulfillment, G&A operating accounting assistance, etc.Qualifications:

Advanced ERP experience: Strong familiarity with Netsuite or equivalent ERP systems, particularly in manufacturing environments. 5-7 years of senior accounting experience, with a focus on manufacturing or cost accounting in fast-paced or dynamic environments. Thrives in fast-paced environments, eager to learn, adaptable, and hands-on when required to meet operational needs. Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel and databases, for complex financial analysis, reporting, and process improvements.
