This position will lead a team of engineers to plan, design, develop and integrate new technology to modernize and improve our manufacturing processes. Partners with research and development and supports manufacturing operations to assure the best combination of design and manufacturability. Coordinates efforts of internal and external engineering resources, vendors, integrators to improve existing and introduce new processes and equipment to increase capacity and maximize safety, quality and productivity.Job Description:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):
Collaborates with management, Research and Development (R & D) engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, automation opportunities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate efficient and effective production processes.Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and specifications. Perform/participate in DFMA and FEMA workshops to achieve the best design for new processes.Provides expertise and collaborates in the preparation and review of capital projects/proposals and R&A documentation which includes presenting a business case, project scope, timing, funding requirements, procedures, and resource requirements.Leads project teams or participate in project teams developing project plans that specify objectives, schedules, deliverables, funding, resource requirements, risks, contingencies, and assessing whether the benefits derived justify the expenditures.Investigate and recommend new and/or improved automated manufacturing equipment, assembly and material handling methods that increase productivity, reduce cost, improve safety and energy efficiencies and improve product quality.Works with equipment integrators and systems suppliers concerning specifications, quotes, terms, delivery and installation. Assist Procurement with negotiation of long-term relationship agreements and specific technological protection.Participates in cross functional meetings, seminars, vendor trips, and training sessions to effectively investigate and communicate new processing methods and equipment developments available that can increase productivity and reduce waste/cost. Utilizes statistical and mathematical methods of analysis to estimate future manufacturing requirements.SCOPE & IMPACT:
This role is responsible for the specification, design, execution, and tracking of multi-million-dollar manufacturing capital projects required to support and modernize the business, leveraging multi-layered processes and teams to successfully complete. This position will balance the needs of Innovation Center part design, manufacturing plant requirements, technology integration (robotics, advanced controls, E1 interfacing, etc..), and determine the ability to build with our internal Automation team or outsource depending on resource availability, project backlog, and return on investment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 8-10 years of relevant experience, or equivalent3-5 years of supervisory / leadership experience.Up to 50% travel.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Engineering, Business or LeadershipFormal Project Management experience; KT methodologyExperience with MS Office, MS Project and MS Visio application software, as well as mainframe applications.Experience with process improvement tools such as ISO 9000, Lean Manufacturing, TPS, Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5-S, VFM, RCPS, VPM, DFM and FMEASolidWorks 3D and/or AutoCAD experience developing mechanical parts, systems, and facility drawingsSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May have up to eight direct reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Often required to sit, repetitive hand motion (such as typing), hear, listen, talk, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, crawl reach overhead push/pull and lift up to 30 pounds. Seldom required to Climb ladders, kneel, squat, crouch, balance or lift up over 50 pounds.
