Summary

Receives guidance primarily on unique, unusual, or controversial problems or questions. May lead a work group or project team consisting of one or more support staff and/or tech/professional staff with some coaching from own supervisor, or may provide advice and guidance in area of specialty. Seeks out new avenues for building internal and external relationships; maintains contacts with existing relationships.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

Develops new or significantly modifies and improves existing designs or techniques related to systems, products, devices, components, processes, methods, equipment, facilities or production. Performs simulations to analyze proposed solutions. Creates new circuits and topologies to meet new design and performance targets and/or eliminate problems. Actively participates in design reviews and offers technical advice and feedback to the customers technical staff to develop product requirements. Participates in project planning and scheduling. Provides feedback to customer and other design centers regarding design issues, quality, materials, etc. Provides support to other engineering functions throughout life cycle of product, from design through manufacturing and works with team members to resolve and design or production problems. Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Experienced operating, calibrating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and interpreting data from failure analysis laboratory equipment, including optical microscopy, SEM, XRF, cross-sectioning grinders and polishers, and X-rays. Cross-section preparation of electronic printed circuit assemblies & metallurgical assessments of solder joints. Being certified in IPC-A-610 for soldering quality and in IPC-A-600 and IPC-6012 or familiar with the two standards for inspecting PWBs. Experienced in delivering or decapsulating electronic components. Experienced in performing mechanical testing such as tensile, shear, and compression. Knowledge of Ion Chromatography testing and evaluation of the results on Electronic assemblies. Knowledge of thermal analysis, such as TMA, TGA, and DSC. Demonstrates confidence in describing root cause and corrective actions to internal and external customers and suppliers. Experienced in evaluating and selecting new analytical lab equipment Knowledge of electrochemistry and its application to corrosion of electronic assemblies. Excellent English Communication Skills: High levels of organizational, team, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal) A high level of emotional intelligence: Consistently demonstrating the open-mindedness of a problem solver who can collaboratively engage multiple people in multiple departments and work under challenging situations positively. Onsite: This position is 100% onsite—it is not a remote or hybrid position. In addition, the team member must be able to act competently in emergencies and work flexibly. Expertise in MS Office. Physical Demands Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Typical Experience 10 years working in an electronics hardware quality lab or related experience in similar job roles Typical Education Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
