Your work environment at EXP
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer/Designer to work in a flexible role that includes engineering, design and specification of building mechanical and HVAC systems for Life Sciences, Research and Development, Pharmaceutical, and Critical Facilities Projects. Work will be performed under supervision of senior staff.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills are required. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in support of multiple projects is essential. REVIT and AutoCAD proficient with working drawings. Prepare floor plans showing mechanical and HVAC duct, piping, device layouts, equipment, etc. Perform cooling and heating load calculations. Prepare one-line diagrams for supply air, exhaust air, return air, chilled water, heating hot water, office zones, laboratory, zones, etc. with limited input from senior staff. Write studies and reports for systems on projects. Understand sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HHW systems. Understand and applies concepts of CHW, HHW, variable & constant flow systems. Air side systems- CV, VAV, coil selection, fan selection. Hydronic Systems - hot, chilled, condenser, steam. Thorough understanding of psychometrics and be able to apply to every project. Advanced equipment selection and analysis – chillers, boilers, air terminals, cooling towers, air valves, hepa filters, DX equipment, and water source heat pumps. Thorough understanding of humid climate design risks. Thorough understanding of total energy concepts. Mechanical specifications with limited input from senior staff. Layout instrumentation and controls devices on floor plans with limited input from senior staff. Develop shaft, chase, and equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases. Edit specifications to reflect project requirements. Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight from senior staff. Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application. Performs field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects. Coordinates with other disciplines (MEPFP, Architectural, Structural, Process, etc.) Maintains the engineering book for the project. Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittal with limited input from senior staff. Solve installation problems with mechanical and HVAC systems, travel to site to resolve issues. Apply risk management procedures to minimize exp’s and client’s exposure to problems. Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in the work plan. Understand proper scope of SD, DD, CD and LOD 100, 200 and 300 level documents – and deliver appropriate documentation. Work with senior engineers, PM and client to meet scheduled milestones on multiple projects. Manage and deliver revisions and sketches. Edit and develop scope of work narratives (Basis of Design, etc.) Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review construction details.What your experience looks like
Minimum of 7 years experience in related design of Life Sciences, Research and Development, Pharmaceutical, and Critical Facilities systems and building projects. Engineering Degree (BS Mechanical, BS Architectural Engineering, or equivalent) from an accredited school. PE license or EIT preferred Ability to travel
