Job Description:

Parsons is looking to hire a full-time dedicated Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead Infrastructure projects engineering work. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is broadly responsible for establishing system requirements, performing functional analyses, and preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets, and reports while mentoring and leading junior engineers to meet our clients’ needs. Senior Mechanical Engineers are also responsible for providing regular input into the progressive elaboration of 3D models and 2D drawings to achieve technically coherent and compliant designs for our clients.  This role would be based out of our Oakville, Ontario office.

Key Responsibilities
 

Depending on the role in the project, responsibilities may include and are not limited to:

Demonstrate a range of technical capabilities with experience in Mechanical Engineering and design, and development of contract documents (design reports, analysis reports, calculations, plans, specifications, etc.).Lead or assist in the definition of mechanical project scopeLead mechanical engineering teams to ensure delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and scheduleEstablish user requirements, analyze system functional and performance requirements, and define design criteriaDevelop appropriate mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design schemesPrepare and interpret engineering calculations including heat load calculations, and hydraulic modeling/calculations, and perform system analysesPrepare equipment sizing while ensuring that all analyses satisfy user and system requirementsProvide input to other disciplines within the project design team on mechanical requirements for layouts and project designsConduct interface management between related systems and disciplines.Prepare technical specifications including input received from other project disciplinesManage and review engineering work packages associated with project deliverables including management of project budgets and schedule.Prepare, review, or approve technical deliverables such as equipment specifications, data sheets, calculations, etc.Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reportsProvide input to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimatesPrepare or provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawingsParticipate in and contribute to design reviewsAssist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reportsAssist with technical queries raised during the construction phaseAssist in the commissioning of systems on site as requiredGuide more junior engineers and drafters
 

Qualifications And Experience
 

B.Sc./B.Eng. in mechanical engineeringRegistration as a professional engineer in Ontario (PEO)Minimum 8 years of project engineering/design experience in buildings HVAC, Plumbing and Drainage, and Fire ProtectionExperience in LRT, Metro, or Railway /transit design projects (or any other Infrastructure projects)Experience in leading small and large mechanical teams in multi-disciplinary projects.Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.Excellent organizational, planning, time management, and problem-solving skillsAbility to meet targets with minimal supervisionKnowledgeable in the use of specialized engineering software such as Carrier HAP, AFT Fathom, eQUEST, etc.Working knowledge of industry standards (NFPA, ASHRAE), regulations and codes (OBC, NBC) pertinent to the infrastructure mechanical engineering disciplineSound knowledge of engineering management systems, deliverable progress measurementExperience with greenfield and brownfield interfaces, including constructability experienceWillingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards and processesAbility to delegate tasks and effectively supervise engineers and designers.Legally able to work in Canada.
