The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural and specialty design services for a wide variety of buildings that include public, municipal, private, and Federal project types across the region and globally. With a team of experienced staff in specific market sectors such as Healthcare, Science and Technology, Data Centers, Higher Education, Federal, Transportation, Water, and Resources facilities, we provide engineering excellence for our clients. We have an industry leading focus on sustainable design and energy conservation.

The HDR BES group in New York City is looking for aSenior-Level Mechanical Engineer-HVAC to join our team.

Primary Duties

Lead the work of the mechanical design team throughout all project phases ranging from feasibility studies, programming, conceptual design, schematic design, construction documents, construction administration, commissioning, and project close-outWrite and edit mechanical specifications to fit project requirementsReview mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplinesUnderstand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for different applicationsAbility to perform psychrometric calculations for analyzing and selecting HVAC systems and equipmentDevelop sections and elevations for complex ductwork and piping areasDevelop air and water flow diagramsCoordinate HVAC system control requirements and intended modes of operation with controls engineers to develop control diagrams, point lists, and sequences of operationVisit project sites as requested to verify existing conditions or as contractually required to monitor construction progress and prepare field observation reportsEstablish meetings and participates in reviews with various governing agencies for code complianceResponsible to coordinate workload, complete project assignments and deliverables on scheduleConductvirtual / on-site work sessions for projects in conjunction with other disciplines, owners, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders including presentations, etc.Experience in developing project hours to complete mechanical design documents for RFP’sCoordinate and assist affected disciplines with project addenda, RFIs, change proposal requests, and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documentsWork with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director for project reviews with corporate management as neededPreferred Qualifications:Open to Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical FocusUnderstanding of applicable design codes and specification requirementsSignificant experience designing complex and large-scale healthcare, laboratory, and/or mission critical data center facilitiesProficiency in Revit and Microsoft OfficeExperience using load calculation software, energy modeling software, and manufacturer equipment selection softwareExcellent organizational and communication skillsTake ownership of assignments and work both independently and as part of a large project teamStrongly motivated, well organized, and showing professional initiativeFocused on client outcomesCandidate with strong mentoring skills is highly preferredPreference is given to local candidates

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings Professional Engineer (PE) license Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and AutoCAD Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $125,000 - $197,500 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
