Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer responsible for the design and development of mechanical systems, structures, and components. This role involves concept development, evaluation, analysis, and ensuring all technical specifications and requirements are met. The candidate will work from the initial concept design through to the final production and manufacturing of tangible products. They will develop innovative mechanical solutions and refine concepts, technologies, and designs as part of a greater systems design effort.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop 3D CAD designs of individual components, assemblies, and total assemblies.Maintain CAD file documentation in a PDM/CM system such as Windchill or similar.Integrate design activities across engineering team members, partners, and suppliers.Perform supporting scoping and sizing calculations to downselect design features to meet design requirements using publicly published consensus codes and standards.Develop mechanical/physical concepts and support the development of processes to create mechanical engineered solutions for high reliability/high safety requirement driven systems in a highly regulated environment.Perform mechanical computations utilizing hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations as required.Design components and systems for high temperature/high pressure systems, thermal management, boilers, reactors, fluid systems, gas turbines, wind turbines, combustion-driven systems, rocket and propulsion systems, advanced heat exchangers, steam-powered systems, etc.Support the assessment of mechanical components and systems for manufacturability as well as assembly and integration considerations (DFM, DFX, DFA).Write and develop design documentation including design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings in accordance with applicable procedures.Develop Verification and Validation (V&V) plans for analytical tools and support the qualification of the toolset.Perform work in accordance with quality procedures for design and configuration management to ensure project quality requirements are met.Essential SkillsRequires hands-on experience with actual hardware and experience working through the product development lifecycle to production/fabrication.Experience from highly regulated industries such as aerospace, medical devices, automotive, propulsion/rocketry, defense electronics, or other related highly regulated industries.Experience with mechanical component level design of similar systems such as high pressure vessels, fluid systems, reactors, boilers, gas turbines, combustion systems, rocket propulsion systems, heat exchangers, steam-driven systems, thermal systems, advanced mechanisms systems.Proficiency with CAD software such as Siemens NX, Solidworks, or CREO.Experience with PDM/Configuration management systems like Windchill or similar.Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or a Master's Degree (preferred).At least 10-15 years of relevant experience.Technology Readiness Level (TRL) at 5 or beyond, and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) at 5 or 6 or better.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with FEA/Thermal Analysis Tools including CFD and software tools like ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN, FEMAP, CAESAR, ROHR, LS-DYNA, PIPESTRESS, RELAP, Flownex, NPSS, SINDA/FLUINT, and others.Work Environment

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00
