Our Engineering organization is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager within our Farmington Lead Design Center (LDC) located in Farmington, CT. This is an opportunity for a seasoned engineering leader to directly impact both our local engineering organization and Otis globally. This team member will play a critical role in leading a team through the design and validation cycles for key components within Otis. In this role, you will hold responsibilities of ensuring model success on all product deliverables, advance the state of key product development initiatives by guiding and mentoring a 9-person organization comprised of mechanical engineers. This role will support Farmington LDC deliverables but impact all other global LDCs who work to design and deploy components in every Otis Elevator around the world. This team member will engage in product support requests from global and regional Quality and Product support groups. These include:
Mechanical modules: governors, safeties, buffers, doors, machines and suspension
Electrical Modules: controls and drives
Quality and Product Support organization
On a typical day you will:
• Lead the mechanical engineering development team in the execution of deliverables in support of projects to keep in alignment with program deliverables and customer expectations.
• Manage 9-person organization of mechanical engineers, with responsibility for annual merit planning, coaching, and mentoring, setting objectives (in concert with module owners), conducting 3x annually performance connections meetings, and technical training.
• Evaluate resources and skills needed to ensure the success of program deliverables for major module product development programs.
• Evaluate new program proposals to provide an estimate of required resources and timing needed to support and build an actionable project plan.
• Support the incubation of early-stage technology explorations that align with major mechanical module needs in the areas of cost-reduction, product gap closure, and performance robustness
• Understanding of design for Reliability, including developing testing strategies using DOE approaches.
• Coordinate qualification methods and planning. Work with the testing at Otis’ Quality Assurance Center and Bristol Test Tower, using sub-scale and hoist way test beds.
• Champion the use of design software tools such as Creo 3D model development or Ansys for product simulation.
What You Will Need to be Successful:
Otis is looking for a leader with a strong collaborative and global mindset who will report to the Senior Director of Mechanical Engineering. This experienced Mechanical Engineering manager requires a strong desire to work in an environment with a diverse mix of technology and products and is interested in large-scale transformations. She or he will be a technical contributor to the global mechanical engineering group that is developing products that will be seen and used in all of Otis Elevators daily around the world. The Senior Mechanical Engineering manager will apply their competencies and skills to our components and systems including but not limited to elevator suspension, machines, doors, safety subsystems, and cars.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• BS Mechanical Engineering is required
• 10+ years’ experience developing mechanical structure and design
• Experience in leading mechanical engineering teams through complex multi-phase programs
• Experienced in estimating resources and timing requirements and a proven track record on delivering results
• Experience in using Modeling and Simulations based tools is required
• Systems Engineering knowledge
• Proven experience executing a Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
• Proven experience in Design for X: cost, manufacturing, reliability and service

• Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering

The salary range for this role is $134,500-$240,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may change in the future. Pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
