Join the Gilbane Preconstruction Team as we prepare to plant even deeper roots across the Southeast! 

 

This role will report to the Raleigh, NC office and preference is for someone to work in the office; however, we will also consider a highly qualified candidate to work remotely with occasional travel to Raleigh and other offices in the Southeast. (Atlanta, Charlotte, Richmond)

 

The Senior Mechanical Estimator will support and work with preconstruction/BD staff in the review of project plans, requirements and specifications, and may organize a team of estimators to perform pricing, and bidding of projects.

Responsibilities Review and understand all project plans, requirements and specificationsCoordinate and supervise a team of estimators to develop large, multi-disciplinary estimates.Determine labor and equipment costsReview and understand all bid documents and assess project risksUnderstand project logistics and project schedulePrepare bid packages and compare and analyze competitive subcontract and supplier bidsReview quotes and estimates with Project Team and prepare recommendationsInterface with clients, ensuring customer satisfactionAccurately develop cost modelsTrack and report on current material and labor prices, including escalationDevelop meaningful VE contributions to reduce priceReconcile quantity surveys with consultants and design teamIdentify escalation factors in marketplace for specific materials and labor ratesResponsible for sound conceptual pricing assumptions with sound documentation for the basis of the estimateAbility to substantiate all aspects of final estimates Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

Bachelor in Engineering5-10 years relevant experienceOr equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Able to estimate all types of building projects, including residential high rise, healthcare, interiors and institutionalKnowledge of suitable electrical contractors and suppliers for all types of projectsFamiliar with both union and merit shop electrical contractors preferredKnowledge of typical electrical pricing for project types above; for both union and merit shop projects preferredAble to take concept and schematic drawings and develop a meaningful estimate with detailFamiliar with the use of On-Screen Take-off software program preferred
