HDR is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Industrial team in Savannah (Pooler)-GA or Charlotte-NC, which provides engineering consulting services to industrial customers located across the U.S. This position includes leading and supporting a variety of projects involving various hydrocarbon storage and transporting facilities, including natural gas, liquified natural gas, and liquid petroleum products. The team is also expanding its footprint in the renewable energy and alternative fuels markets. This individual will work with a multi-discipline group of engineers and technicians providing engineering and design services to the OG clients. Typical projects involve will involve life extension and system upgrades of existing facilities as well as design of new facilities. On a day-to-day basis, the Senior Mechanical Process Engineer will be expected to:
Produce mechanical system designs including PIDs, equipment sizing, detailed design, and system calculationsPrepare equipment and design specificationsPerform pipe stress analyses for process piping.Perform equipment and contractor bid evaluationsPerform site inspectionsProvide remote support and occasional field visits during installation, testing and start-upPerform feasibility studies and conceptual design evaluationsPrepare project cost estimatesAssist with client presentations and preparation of client proposalsCoordinate the work of Mechanical Engineers with the balance of a multi-discipline team throughout the project's developmentEstablish effective client relationships and participate in marketing, design and production meetings with regard to mechanical systemsServe as the mechanical lead on multiple simultaneous projectsConduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager, and other discipline engineersCoordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on scheduleTrack the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work efforts with the project team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon budget and scheduleAssist project manager in keeping the project team focused on scope and identifying potential change order tasksParticipate with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director in project reviews with corporate management as neededPerform other duties as neededPreferred Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience including experience in design and operational support of electrical generation stationsExperience with preparing procurement and design specifications for new installations as well as upgrade/replacement of existing equipmentExperience with AutoPipe, Ceasar II or similar softwareExperience with design of hydrocarbon facility mechanical systems (e.g., rotating equipment, heat exchangers, control valves, metering, compressed air, etc.)Proficiency in the use of standard PC software: Word, Excel, Power Point, OutlookAbility to work collaboratively with othersStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational skillsAttention to detail, self-directed learning, meeting deadlines, and multi-tasking are also requiredExperience with preparation of feasibility studies for large hydrocarbon facilitiesExperience with the design, manufacture, testing and/or operation of hydrocarbon facility mechanical equipment including turbines, compressors, cooling towers and heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and other mechanical components.Previous employment with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm supporting heavy industrial clientsAbility to serve / previous experience in Project Lead Engineer role for Mechanical Engineering DisciplineExperience with NavisWorks, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, and/or other 3D-database driven design processesExperience with Microsoft Project or Primavera a plusDemonstrated ability and interest to act as a Team LeaderNatural gas pipeline compression experienceLocal candidates are preferredLI-SM1Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings Professional Engineer (PE) license Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and AutoCAD Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
