Introduction to the Job

ASML is seeking a Senior Mechatronics/Controls Design Engineer to join the Wilton, Connecticut development location as we break new ground in the emerging field of photolithography. As ASML pushes the boundaries of nanotechnology beyond current state of the art, we have a need to develop high precision equipment while maintaining a focus on cost effectiveness and reliability. We are looking for someone to help pioneer knowledge in this developing area.

Role and Responsibilities

You will work on mechatronics, sub-nanometer linear motion control, product and system integration and software functionality, all specific to ASML products. The main focus will be on the Top Module Escalations (TME) team, supporting Reticle stage field issues.. You should have direct experience in the design and test of mechatronic systems and control systems.

As a Senior Mechatronics Engineer on the TME team, you will:

Investigate, diagnose and create action plans to resolve machine down and performance issues in the field from around the worldCommunicate and coordinate with our local teams as GSC groups to properly execute the solutions in the fieldAlign technical decisions and rational with our internal ASML teams to ensure all parties agree on how your solution will meet the requirements of both ASML and our customersResolving equipment, software and design issues in a timely fashion as they arise at customer sitesRun complex mechatronic systems for test and qualification of design changesDesign quality products using six sigma and lean process techniques for robust designsCreate documentation for product designs and operations to be used in a clean manufacturing environmentTake direction from ASML System Architects and Senior Engineer mentors who are leading the effort to contain and resolve escalationsSome travel (up to 10%) within the US and internationally can be expected

Education and Experience

To help us tackle the technical challenges we face, you will need experience working on high-tech products and with complex processes.

As a Senior Mechatronics Engineer, you will need:

Master’s Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering degree5+ years of relevant experience

Mechatronics engineering background or specialization in closely related areas (e.g. robotics, etc.)Experience with PID controllers, linear and nonlinear calibrations, flexible dynamicsExperience with magnetic linear actuators and magnetic levitation systems a plusBasic experience with mechatronics behavior predictive modeling and methods in MATLAB / SIMULINK or similar tools, including “first principle” engineering equations and other techniques, particularly applied to control system simulation and implementationAbility to apply “classical control theory” and “digital control theory” (e.g. frequency domain, stability (Nyquist / Bode plots), Velocity-Acceleration-Jerk (VAJ), feedback / feedforward, dynamics, gain and phase, transfer functions, continuous / discrete feedback control, real time controls, etc.)Ability to derive conclusions from analyses and make practical recommendationsStrong technical writing and communication skills in English, including presenting results based on strong statistical evidence to audiences of a wide range of technical abilitiesExposure to multi-disciplinary projects, such as imaging / optical systems, semiconductor or lithography preferred but not required

Other Information

This position is located on-site in Wilton, Connecticut. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovationA flexible workplace arrangement may be available to employees working in roles conducive to remote work (up to 2 days a week)

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.).
