Senior Medical Assistant

The Patient Service Coordinator II licensed/MA-C provides support for the SCI Reid Family Innovative Therapeutics and Research Unit (ITU), exercising independence in the planning and accomplishment of a wide spectrum of supportive duties. Responsibilities include: scheduling of new patients, follow-up clinic appointments, subsequent treatments, and requested diagnostic tests, acquiring of insurance verifications, referrals and authorizations, preparing and maintaining the patient's medical record, reconciling billing issues, answering multiple phone lines and triaging phone calls. Excellent communication and problem solving skills around patient care and clinic matters are vital. Exceptional compassion, sensitivity, and emotional stability are necessary with the Cancer population.  As a member of the care team, this position acts as a professional liaison with patients, families, other departments, and third party payers.  This position also acts as a medical assistant in rooming patients, drawing blood (phlebotomy), injections, assisting in minor procedures as well as tasks that assist in the flow of patients through the department, such as cleaning infusion areas between patients, restocking and ordering supplies, and running errands.  This individual performs responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner. This individual will partner in the orientation and training of new staff.  These responsibilities are often carried out simultaneously with frequent interruption. In addition, this job may include other special project assignments as directed.  All duties accomplished with an exceptional customer service approach to optimize the patients experience in the Swedish system.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of certified medical assistant program. Upon hire: Washington Medical Assistant Certification  Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association Obtaining insurance verifications, referrals and authorizations.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's Degree Or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with emphasis in Health Care preferred. 1 year Medical assistant experience in a healthcare setting (i.e. physician’s office, scheduler, etc.).
