Department Summary:
The mission of the Border Security department is to improve our impact on government operations in the areas of border security, law enforcement, and immigration as part of the MITRE Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH). Our current work program includes support in the areas of systems engineering, program acquisition and management, sensors and surveillance, communications and networking, digital engineering, and cybersecurity.
We are seeking a systems engineer with applied digital engineering (DE)/model-based systems engineering (MBSE) experience to join our team of solution architects supporting an exciting variety of homeland security programs and to provide advanced engineering, modeling and simulation (M&S), integration, and logistics capabilities to support our sponsor missions. This opportunity is for systems engineers with experience in applying systems engineering principles and practices using model-based languages, methods, and tools to analyze complex systems or system-of-systems.
In this position, you will use your knowledge of systems engineering and model-based engineering processes, methods, tools, and program roles to help develop, implement, and deploy digital engineering solutions and services for use on individual programs and across the sponsor enterprise. By applying model-based methods, systems engineers and architects promote mission success, functional integration, and resource optimization in support of decision-making for an enterprise environment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
You will learn, apply, and continuously improve current Digital Engineering practices to capture stakeholder and system requirements, facilitate discussion and understanding of digital environments, and enhance the digital engineering culture. Some of the specific responsibilities include:
+ Supporting MITRE teams that are assisting government leaders in implementing and adopting DE/MBSE practices and tools
+ Contributing to the development of systems engineering models that enable government leaders to make informed decisions about acquisitions, requirements, design, and execution of a program and/or system
+ Conducting analysis of current government implementations of DE/MBSE efforts and identifying improvements in DE adoption, execution, and sustainment
Basic Qualifications:
+ A minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, software engineering, computer science, or related disciplines; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
+ Successful candidate in this position will have experience with systems engineering and model-based engineering.
+ Knowledge of digital engineering methods and creative thought leadership to mature and develop evolutionary digital engineering solutions consisting of people, processes, and tools.
+ Experience applying technical skills across multiple subject matter domains, such as homeland security and defense.
+ Experience using modern MBSE tools (e.g., Innoslate, Magic Systems of Systems Architect (MSOSA), Cameo, CATIA No Magic, Rhapsody)
+ Proficiency in one or more of the programming languages for quantitative analyses (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R) and/or general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Java, C++)
+ Strong oral and written communication skills.
+ Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government clearance.
+ This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Advanced Degree in systems engineering, software engineering, computer science, or related disciplines.
+ Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance.
+ Broad systems engineering experience including Early Concept Development, Requirements Analysis, Design, Test and Evaluation, Risk Assessment, Analysis of Alternatives/Trade Space Analysis, Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification, Design of Experiments, and Data Analytics.
+ Hands-on experience with Digital Engineering, using MBSE tools along with operational analysis tools (e.g., AFSIM, STK) or Data Analytics tools and languages (e.g., R, Python/pySim, MATLAB) to conduct analysis of systems or systems of systems.
+ Experience in Homeland Security or Department of Defense space
+ Strong interpersonal skills to develop a trusted advisor relationship with government leaders and effectively communicate.
