The Network Operations Center seeks a Senior Engineer . This position will report to the DCNOC Director or designee for assignment of duties and tasks. The purpose of the position is to provide an expert level of technical operational support, administration and monitoring services to District government agencies.
In order to provide proactive monitoring of the Districts' enterprise infrastructure, the District requires skilled IT personnel. This technical resource position plays a key role in maintaining the continued Enterprise Network Operational Center support for mission critical district services hosted within the OCTO datacenters.
The individual will be required to work on the days of the week designated by the Director, or designee. The individual will be required to work a total of 80 hours over a two week period. Shift schedules can be rotated or changed to meet the operational needs of the department, and to also ensure adequate coverage. The individual shall respond to and fix high level problems during his/her assigned shift, and will be required to work on any holiday including Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The individual will be expected to be able to work extended hours on an emergency preparedness situation that may occur on their shift.
The individual shall be the primary Tier III escalation technician for major events and outages on those systems. They will contact designated individuals responsible for supporting those systems, escalate as necessary, and report on the progress of restoration. She/he shall perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all related major incidents when requested by OCTO, and perform periodic (hourly, per shift, daily) functional and performance testing of existing production systems as required.
This position also requires that the Sr. Network Operations Center Engineer perform architecture and capacity management of the network to include the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance and de-installation of network infrastructure hardware and software as necessary to support increased or decreased network requirements.
Roles and responsibilities
• Expert experience in analysis, design, configuration and implementation of routers, switches and firewalls in network and security layer models.
• Expert experience in requirements gathering related to implementation of technology solutions across enterprise and service provider networks.
• Provide hands-on analysis and quality assurance for the DCNET network engineering team, leveraging industry expertise and understanding of large service provider design and deployments of complex technology solutions.
• Expert in Large Scale Design/Implementation experience with Cisco ASR and Nexus platforms in a Service Provider environment supporting network data and voice subscriber services
