The Senior Network Engineer reports to the Assistant Director, Data Networks, working with a team of professionals to plan/manage the overall architectural design and daily operations of Villanova’s data and voice networks. This position directly contributes to the planning and managing of campus connectivity and network reliability/resiliency, working to ensure service uptime and quality to meet the needs of campus operations. This position will engage proactively with key vendors and campus partners to assist in designing network infrastructure that meets current and future needs, as well as the continual monitoring and improvement of delivery of data and voice network services. This position is expected to have in-depth technical expertise for both tactical and operational initiatives for our wired/wireless data networks and digital/analog voice networks.

Duties and Responsibilities: Operational and Project Work: Planning, Building, Managing Data/Voice Networks: Contribute to the design, implementation, support, and ongoing enhancements of more redundant and resilient data/voice campus networks. Continual, proactive observation of the status, health, utilization, and performance of enterprise networks through use of monitoring and capacity planning tools. Support of mission critical operations: core and distributed campus networks (wired and wireless), campus telephony solutions, internet connectivity, and bandwidth. Collaborate with team members and other teams within University Information Technologies (UNIT) to take a more holistic approach to equipment lifecycle, with special emphasis on the security of said infrastructure: design, purchase, asset tracking, build, configuration, monitoring, enhancement, and timely replacement of all hardware and software tied to data/voice networks.
Research, Development, and Service Delivery Assessment: ·Engage in the Continual Service Improvement process with colleagues to assess services and processes, identifying opportunities for enhancements or replacements.
Administrative Responsibilities:· Facilitate knowledge transfer between units inside and outside of UNIT. Generate quotes, purchase requests, and justification for procurement of equipment and services. Participate in meetings relevant to this position and team across campus. Create and facilitate change requests for approval on all production networks. Participate in planning activities for establishing future directions for networks and connectivity based on support metrics, customer experience, and their contribution to the mission of Villanova.
Outreach and Campus Engagement: Contribute to UNIT’s outreach and customer relations efforts, working with staff to assure that customer needs are met. Work with clients and units both inside and outside UNIT to assure satisfactory delivery of services in an efficient manner. Provide technical support and consulting to colleagues both internal and external to UNIT to ensure systems and services are more secure, sustainable, and scalable. Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with key internal and external campus colleagues. Engage proactively to build strong relationships with strategic vendors. Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combinations of relevant certifications, education, training, and work experience will be considered Work Experience 5+ years’ experience administering network equipment: 5+ years’ experience working with large, complex campus networks 5+ years’ experience working with OSPF and BGP routing 3+ years’ experience deploying and supporting wireless infrastructure 3+ years’ experience in data center network design or support 1+ years’ experience with Linux-based systems or command-line interfaces (CLI)

Equipment Knowledge: Thorough understanding of fiber optic installation and support (designing, splicing, testing) Thorough understanding of copper installation and support (designing, splicing, testing) Preferred Qualifications: Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree Certifications in wired, wireless, and/or telephony networking work experience
Work Experience:Experience working in a higher education setting
