Job Title: Senior Network Engineer

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to deliver cutting-edge network security solutions for UVA’s academic networks. This individual will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network security solutions using industry-leading technologies and methodologies. Reporting to the Director of Academic Networks, the successful candidate will handle daily operational needs and participate in strategic initiatives such as firewall RFP and modernization and cloud networking and security implementations.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage firewall operations and implement security rules.Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to define network security requirements.Design and develop network security architectures using diverse technologies and methodologies.Assess existing network infrastructures, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend solutions.Provide guidance on network security best practices and emerging trends.Create comprehensive documentation, including solution designs and implementation plans.Present network security solutions to diverse audiences, including executives.Support engineering teams with implementation and troubleshooting.Stay current on network security advancements and integrate new knowledge into solutions.Conduct security audits and recommend remediation measures.Offer expertise in cloud networking and SaaS, focusing on connectivity and data security.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

5+ years of experience with firewalls and network security appliances (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco, Juniper).5+ years of network troubleshooting experience.Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Configuration).Excellent communication skills to convey complex topics effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in at least one network security vendor’s solution set.Zero Trust-specific certifications.3+ years of experience with AWS and Azure cloud networking environments.AWS and/or Azure-specific networking certifications.Proven experience in managing firewall policies in hybrid cloud environments.Firewall vendor certifications (Fortinet is a plus).SD-WAN experience (e.g., Silverpeak).Experience with Juniper routers and/or Aruba switches.

Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary position that involves extensive computer use. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings and programs.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma (Bachelor’s Degree Preferred).Experience: 5 years.Licensure: None required.
