Senior Network Engineer
Senior Network Engineer Department: Information Technology Reports to: VP of Information Technology Location: Liverpool Full-Time: A typical work schedule is standard business hours, 8:30 a.m.– 5:00 p.m., with the flexibility to handle escalations or support during peak times or special projects. Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly Non-Exempt: Compensation starts at $100,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience. Position Summary The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining the organization's network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. This role requires advanced technical expertise in networking technologies, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support complex systems in a fast-paced environment. Essential Functions The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following: + Design, configure, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks. + Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to optimize efficiency and security. + Ensure network security by implementing best practices, firewalls, access controls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems. + Collaborate with IT and security teams to maintain compliance with industry standards and company policies. + Manage network capacity planning and scalability to support business growth and new technology implementations. + Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network engineers and IT staff. + Develop and maintain network documentation, including diagrams, policies, and procedures. + Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning related to network infrastructure. + Research and evaluate new networking technologies and recommend solutions to enhance system performance and security. + Respond to network incidents, outages, and service requests in a timely manner. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) + Network Uptime & Reliability – Maintain 99.9%+ network uptime, ensuring minimal disruptions to business operations. + Incident Response Time – Resolve critical network issues within X minutes/hours and general network issues within defined SLAs. + Security Compliance – Ensure 100% adherence to security protocols, firewalls, and regulatory compliance (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001). + Network Performance Optimization – Maintain optimal latency, bandwidth utilization, and throughput to improve system efficiency. + Project Delivery & Documentation – Complete network upgrade or implementation projects on time and maintain comprehensive network documentation.Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent are preferred. Additional Responsibilities + Employees may be required to perform duties outside their primary responsibilities or assigned department, as reasonably requested by management. These duties may occasionally occur outside regular working hours, provided they align with applicable labor laws. Physical Demands The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. + Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (e.g., networking equipment, servers). + Requires frequent standing, walking, crouching, bending, kneeling, and working in tight spaces (e.g., server rooms, under desks). + Extended periods of sitting at a workstation using a computer and network monitoring tools. + Fine motor skills required for handling cables, connectors, and small network components. + May need to work in temperature-controlled data centers with exposure to noise from network equipment. Minimum Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). + 7+ years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on enterprise-level environments. + Expertise in networking protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and MPLS. + Strong knowledge of firewall and security technologies (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet). + Experience with wireless networking, VPN technologies, and network monitoring tools. + Proficiency in troubleshooting complex network issues and implementing solutions. + Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders. + Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent are preferred.
