Senior Orbital Debris Modeling Engineer (BT-24187)

The Senior Orbital Debris Modeling Engineer will support the JETS II contract in Houston, Texas. This senior level role will serve as a principal debris research engineer\/scientist, spanning measurements, modeling, and mitigation of the environment. The successful applicant shall provide scientific insight and leadership within NASA's effort to understand the orbital debris environment and develop measures to control debris growth.\n
\n

RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nDevelop, document, maintain, and operate software models and databases of the orbital debris environment.\nProvide data analysis for measurement data in direct support of orbital debris\/space object engineering models.\nWork closely with JETS-2 Orbital Debris Research & Science Operations (ODRSO) colleagues and NASA Orbital Debris Program Office (ODPO) customers.\nPresent work products to customers and counterparts (written & verbal).\nSupport and participate in technical interchange meetings.\nOther duties as assigned. \n\n

\n\nThis position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information. \nRequires a bachelor's degree in engineering.\nMust have 10+ years of recent and related work experience.\nScientific and technical leadership.\nExperience developing and implementing mathematical modeling methods and algorithms, including developing empirical models.\nExperience with high-level programming and analysis languages.\nExperience developing, verifying, and validating computer models and simulations.\nDemonstration of creativity, conception, vision, and personal initiative.\nMust meet eligibility requirements to receive and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.\n\n
\n

DESIRED:\n\nA Ph.D. in the relevant disciplines identified in requirements.\nProficiency in Fortran, MATLAB, and\/or Python.\nExperience with orbital mechanics in near-Earth or other environments.\nExperience with large-scale orbital evolution simulations, including Monte Carlo simulation.\nExperience analyzing orbital debris measurement data.\nExperience with statistical analysis and data reduction, including Bayesian statistical inference.\nExperience with software development and maintenance, including code testing and optimization.\nExperience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.\n\n
\n

WORK LOCATION: \n\nThis position is located onsite.\nThis position offers a 9\/80 schedule, every other Friday off. \nThis position may require some travel. \n\n
\n

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:\n

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED:\n

STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS:\n\nMust have experience with Microsoft Office Suite.\nAll of Bastion's employees must be team players. \nAble to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.\nAble to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.\nMust have a strong work ethic and must be safety culture oriented.\nMust be organized with good time management skills.\nGenerally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.\nWork may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). \nMay require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).\nRegular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.\nAbility to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.\n\n
