We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Orbital Debris Modeling Scientist to join our team with JETS II.
This position will work on the JETS-2 Orbital Debris Research team supporting the NASA Orbital Debris Program Office, a key element in NASA’s Space Sustainability strategy. This senior level role will serve as a principal debris research scientist, spanning measurements, modeling, and mitigation of the environment. The successful applicant shall provide scientific insight and leadership within NASA’s effort to understand the orbital debris environment and develop measures to control debris growth.
The selected applicant will\:
Develop, document, maintain, and operate software models and databases of the orbital debris environment Provide data analysis for measurement data in direct support of orbital debris/space object engineering models Work closely with JETS-2 Orbital Debris Research & Science Operations (ODRSO) colleagues and NASA Orbital Debris Program Office (ODPO) customers Present work products to customers and counterparts (written & verbal) Support and participate in technical interchange meetings. A BS degree and may be expected to have a master’s or higher degree and a minimum of 10-15 years of experience are typically required. A terminal degree in Physics, Astronomy, Planetary or Space Sciences, Aerospace Engineering, or other related field from an accredited school and a minimum of 10 years direct experience Scientific and technical leadership Experience developing and implementing mathematical modeling methods and algorithms, including developing empirical models Experience with high-level programming and analysis languages Experience developing, verifying, and validating computer models and simulations Demonstration of creativity, conception, vision, and personal initiative Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a joint team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and contractor employees, and domestic and international partners Must meet eligibility requirements to receive and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearanceRequisition Preferences\:
