Senior Packaging Test Engineer

Job Summary:

 

This position provides technical support for packaging testing, lab operations, and efficiency improvements.  This position will be responsible for testing and warehouse management in support of new packaging development, productivity, and sustaining projects across all brands.  The position requires the ability to work effectively with the Packaging Research and Development teams across Newell Brands, as well as other disciplines including Marketing, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.  Limited travel may be required.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Cultivates test request criteria and accuracy to drive successful testing in a timely and efficient manner

Leads enhancements to processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the test lab

Leads in ensuring equipment effectiveness through development and execution of preventative maintenance program

Participates in and leads scheduling activities through development of workflow tracking tools and communication with key stakeholders managing weekly TRE meeting

Active leadership toward delivering SEAL and 6S goals including ownership of ongoing training

Provides root cause analysis efforts when packaging does not meet test criteria

Provides guidance in statistical support for proper sample sizing in test plans

Delivers test results with clear reporting on performance levels and confidence intervals

Develops report templates to drive efficiency in reporting and high-quality results communicated to internal and external stakeholders

Ensures test methods are repeatable and reproducible through measurement system analysis

Maintain and update trainings and tools for packaging engineering team (TRE checklist, Windchill trainings)

Ongoing training and mentorship for technicians, solidifying common test methods and training on new test methods

Leads collaboration with packaging engineers to generate and or clarify test plans to ensure testing is representative of correct distribution environments

Collaboration with packaging engineering team for development to innovate test methods for complex problems engineering

 

Required Qualifications:

 

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Packaging Science, or other related field with 5+ years of experience in an engineering role, preferably with distribution testing experience; Relevant work experience will be considered

High level of agility with experience in working across large number of projects in a dynamic cross functional environment

Proven ability or good aptitude to maintain and troubleshoot test lab operations and equipment

Certification or good familiarity with ISTA testing procedures or related testing protocols

Demonstrates organizational skills, aggressive drive for performance, and high levels of personal accountability

Fundamental knowledge of applicable packaging manufacturing processes & distribution channels

Strong problem-solving skills including identifying problems, potential problems, and developing solutions

Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, planning, and presentation skills

Demonstrates the ability to lead by direct control and influence for positive business outcomes

Must be able to repeatedly lift 25 lbs., and up to 40lbs.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Packaging development and/or testing experience in consumer-packaged goods

Demonstrated or experience with SEAL, OSHA, Safety and 6S

Ability to apply Statistical Analysis

Familiarity with the use of data acquisition and data logging software/equipment

Working knowledge of DFMEA, DVP&R, Windchill System, and engineering drawings
