The Opportunity:

CACI is looking for talented Senior Paralegal professionals to support the Department of Justice’s mission at The Housing and Civil Enforcement Section (HCE).  HCE works to protect some of the most fundamental rights of individuals, including the right to access housing free from discrimination, the right to access credit on an equal basis, the right to patronize places of business that provide public accommodations and the right to practice one’s faith free from discrimination.Positions like this are critical and are very involved with high-profile important cases. CACI is looking for people who can work in Washington, DC, but we are responsive to the impact of COVID and will be flexible and consistent with DOJ policy. Paralegal duties focus upon litigation support as we prepare for trial in the coming months. Responsibilities:

Discovery and State Productions: Monitor JEFS for productions from the state, notify attorneys about new productions, log into JEFS, download, organize and save production into the proper folders on the shared drive. Copy documents to the network shared drive. Notify case manager of a Relativity upload request and circulate the shared drive link to the new documents. Assist with reviewing and analyzing incoming data and other information.Subpoena Productions: Monitor JEFS for productions from the counsels, notify the attorneys about new productions, log into JEFS, download, organize and save production into the proper folder on the shared drive. Send case team the link to assess production. Copy to the network drive. Notify case manager of a Relativity upload request and send link to the new document.JEFS External User Request: Work with opposing counsel and the helpdesk requesting user access to JEFS. Subpoenas: assist in research, study local rules for sufficiency, drafting, service and filing of all subpoenas.Depositions: Support research, assist with topic development and questions, management of exhibits, including locating originals, marking, copying, filing, and sending overnight to the site.Experts: Locate documents, research issues, schedule conferences, join in all prep meetings, provide support in travel arrangements, do background checks on ne candidates with help from the DOJ librarians.Outreach: Email outreach to complainants, advocates, GNETS alumni families, scheduling outreach interviews, researching background, and taking notes during those interviews. Weekly meetings – coordinate schedules, prepare and research topics for public outreach, take notes. Maintain the outreach spreadsheet on the shared drive, making sure that it is up to date with details of interviews and contact info. Outreach shared drive organization, making sure notes are saved into the correct folders.Misc.: GNETS on‐demand Zoom: yearly calendar of excel file and all team zoom requests, schedule and share event details and organize notes and records of meetings.Proofing and editing: respond to requests to shepardize cases, proofread, edit, prepare clean final versions of documents Assist with electronic filing of documents.Notetaking: Assist with notetaking during meetings.Monitoring Public Information: Monitor news, social media, and other sources for information related to the issues and key players involved with the GNETS case.General Research/Analysis: Assist with miscellaneous assignments that may involve conducting online research, summarizing/organizing information from different sources, and analyzing data.Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines.  Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents; summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes and tracks exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.  Prepares exhibit cross-references.  Assists attorneys in courtroom.  Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.




Qualifications:

Required: 

Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.At least 2 years of litigation paralegal experience, including 1 year of experience in automated litigation supportSound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.  Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems, e.g., Relativity, Excel, JEFS/Box.com, Word, Zoom, Teams, Power Point, and social media toolsHands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.  Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.Advanced skills with Excel.Professional, can-do, customer-service attitude.Ability to travel is a must.


Desired:

Spanish Language skills preferred, but not required.Experience with cite checking/BluebookingTrial experience

Pay Range:

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.​
 

Minimum Required Hourly Wage:

$30.45
