Overview
The Senior Paralegal will report to USAP’s Vice President and Associate General Counsel and support all aspects of litigation and arbitration matters in which USAP or a USAP practice is involved, including matters involving independent dispute resolution (IDR) under state and federal surprise medical billing laws. This position will be based primarily at USAP’s offices in Dallas, Texas, with the flexibility to work remotely as circumstances allow in coordination with the position’s manager. Occasional travel will be required.
Job Highlights
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):
+ Supports in-house counsel on litigation and arbitration matters, including managing discovery and deadlines, managing and updating files of pleadings and other litigation materials, drafting communications, pleadings, and responses, and working with outside counsel.
+ Manages responses to third-party discovery requests, interpleader claims, bankruptcy claims, and similar matters, under the supervision of in-house counsel and in support of USAP’s revenue cycle team.
+ Addresses routine questions and data requests from IDR entities in coordination with USAP’s arbitration team and escalating non-routine questions to in-house counsel.
+ Approves routine brief submissions to IDR entities based on guidance from USAP’s in-house counsel and input from the arbitration team.
+ Provides project management, tracking, and reporting for litigation and arbitration matters.
+ Manages complex projects to completion and developing streamlined processes and tools to support all aspects of the litigation and arbitration processes and third-party discovery.
+ Fulfils other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
+ Exceptional organizational and process improvement skills.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy in drafting and proofreading legal documents.
+ Professionalism and ability to work independently, manage multiple competing priorities, and provide proactive updates on key projects.
+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Proficiency in using Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Sign, and/or DocuSign.
+ Experience with civil litigation or arbitration.
+ Familiarity with HIPAA compliance
+ Familiarity with surprise medical billing laws such as the No Surprises Act or willingness to learn.
+ Familiarity with applications such as matter management and contract automation systems.
+ Demonstrated ability to learn new applications and software.
+ Ability to work effectively and independently with limited supervision.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
+ Bachelor’s degree required.
+ Paralegal certification preferred.
+ At least 5-10 years of experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department required.
+ Experience working for a healthcare organization or healthcare clients preferred.

+ The employee may be required to stand, walk, and reach with the hands and arms in the performance of the duties of this job.

+ This role routinely requires the use of standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
