Job Description
Provide leadership and guidance to the payroll team. Oversee the preparation and disbursement of payroll by the respective scheduled pay dates. Manage day-to-day operations to ensure accurate and seamless payroll processes are compliant with all federal, state, and local statutory regulations. Guide the adaptation of payroll systems to accommodate evolving legal and management mandates for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.
ResponsibilitiesOversee the end-to-end payroll processes (e.g., payroll processing, garnishments, bonuses, unemployment, tax compliance across multiple states, and reporting).Provide guidance to ensure accuracy and timeliness in the calculation and distribution of employee wages, salaries, and other compensation.Stay up to date with and manage the complexities of all federal and state wage taxation, payroll laws and regulations, including tax withholding, wage and hour laws, and state-specific requirements.Act as an escalation point for employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues or discrepancies.Identify opportunities for process enhancements and automation in payroll procedures.Collaborate with the HRIS department to implement necessary system enhancements and integrations.Maintain and safeguard accurate payroll records, ensuring compliance with record-keeping requirements.Conduct periodic audits and analysis of payroll data to identify trends and areas for improvement.Establish and maintain strong internal controls to prevent fraud or errors in payroll processing.Generate and distribute various payroll reports to management and other departments as needed.Prepare and present payroll-related metrics and data for analysis and strategic decision-making.Provide guidance to the payroll team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Conduct regular team meetings, set goals, and evaluate team performance.Coordinate with payroll service providers, third-party vendors, and external consultants as needed.Essential Skills5+ years of high-volume payroll processing experience.1+ years of supervisory experience preferred.Multi-state payroll tax experience is a must.Experience with payroll software and systems, particularly ADP.In-depth knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations, tax laws, and wage and hour laws.Able to manage payroll for a large company, especially in a multi-state environment.Excellent attention to detail, organizational, analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a high-volume, fast-paced, and deadline-driven environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsUndergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education).Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.5-8 years of payroll experience in a multi-state environment or related experience.Demonstrated leadership attributes, team leadership, or supervisory experience; 1+ year of management experience preferred.Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems.Work Environment
This role requires working onsite three days a week at our headquarters in Kansas City, Kansas. The office is modern and well-equipped, located conveniently near the race track. The culture is collaborative and supportive, providing an excellent opportunity for growth and professional development.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.
