What We Need:
As part of the corporate tax team, the senior payroll tax analyst ensures the accurate and timely review and reconciliation of all federal, state, and local payroll taxes. This includes withholding tax, unemployment tax, and disability insurance tax for a large employer with multiple legal entities in a multi-state environment. This position is also responsible to support payroll tax audits, agency inquiries, and notices related to payroll taxes and all day-to-day payroll tax activities as outlined below. This role will work closely with the payroll tax team, payroll operations, corporate tax, HR, and our external vendor, ADP.
What You'll Do:
Oversee SUTA rates and ensure all rates are updated timely and maintained correctly in Workday and ADP. Respond to SUTA notices. Audit any SUTA rate changes for additional due or credits.Prepare and submit quarterly worker’s compensation insurance returns for assigned jurisdictions timely and accurately.Prepare and submit CA environmental fee returns, NV Modified Business Tax returns, Washington WC filings.Process semi-annual check requests for NJ tax assessments.Prepare and submit forms necessary to register for new agency accounts, closing of obsolete accounts, and submitting company name change documentation to agencies as needed.Process quarterly business unit chargebacks and credits. Process quarterly check request for the Equifax fee with B/U chargebacks.Review and distribute mail addressed to the payroll tax department.Run Workday integration to create and transmit payroll tax liability file to ADP.Assist in reconciling Workday payroll tax liability amounts to ADP invoices.Update Payroll Tax Liability due dates within the ADP Smart Compliance System.Request estimated payroll tax funding. Prepare payroll tax liability funding requests to our corporate cash department. Prepare wire breakdown form to ADP for tax liability payments.Process manual payrolls and manual payroll reversals in ADP as needed.Track all ADP invoicing and balance with periodic and quarterly files.Assist in setting up un-mapped tax codes within the ADP Smart Compliance system as needed.Analyze and process monthly General Ledger reconciliations.Analyze and process monthly Bank reconciliations.Prepare journal entry summaries to adjust balances as needed.Respond to assigned payroll tax notices, seeking expedient resolution and legal mitigation of penalty expenses.Update Tax Notices Database to record issue resolution and/or status changes.Prepare amended returns, as needed, to resolve payroll tax notices and/or report post-period adjustments.Update monthly tax notice worksheets.Advanced knowledge of Excel.Assist with the year-end W-2 process with ADP to ensure an accurate reconciliation to our payroll system and a timely issuance of employees’ hard copy W-2s.Assist with the employees’ exempt from withholding tax process.Provide timely, courteous response to external clients (e.g., tax authorities). Work with tax authorities to resolve tax notices.Ability to negotiate with jurisdictional representatives to achieve acceptable outcomes for tax notice issues.Respond timely to employee inquiries regarding payroll tax issues and document requests.Continuously develop personal knowledge of payroll tax laws, regulations and developments.Maintain a current working knowledge of systems used in the job function and seek out ways to further benefit from process automation.Expand personal knowledge of leading practices in the payroll tax community and discuss potential improvements with department management.Perform tax research as needed and provide adequate documentation for the research.Perform other projects as assigned.
What You'll Need:

• Minimum of 5+ years of in-house corporate payroll tax experience in a multi-state environment.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an accounting or finance emphasis is preferred.
Certifications
•CPP is a plus
