Senior Piping Stress Engineer - Nuclear Projects (Hybrid) City Charlotte State NC Country United States Area of Interest Mechanical Engineering Type Full Time - Regular Job ID 2024-9658 Business Group Nuclear Power Group Department Piping Engineering Analysis Description In this position, you will be responsible for piping analysis work on new and existing generation nuclear projects, and will interface with systems engineering, structural engineering, piping design, and support design groups, for the design of piping systems and pipe supporting elementsReconciliation of pipe stress reports for as-built conditionsPrepare analytical reports determining the reactions of piping on equipment and structuresInterpret and apply code requirementsReview proposed piping support systems, identify issues, and recommend appropriate, cost-effective solutionsInterface and exchange engineering details between external contacts including equipment suppliers, clients, and installation contractorsManage workload to meet project commitmentsConsult with client and others on field-related issues including follow-up reports or design modificationsCoordinate and provide guidance to other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure a complete and timely designDevelop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers by way of S&L’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice"Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering, from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program, with an emphasis in solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis5 or more years creating computer piping analysis models and interpreting results for code complianceMust have knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes (knowledge of B31.1 1967 Edition and B&PV Section III 1971 through Summer 1973 Addenda is preferred)Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elementsWorking knowledge of commercially available piping products and their applicationStrong written and verbal communication skills required

Valued but not required skills and experience:

P.E. license is desiredMS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering, from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved programExperience with CAESAR II and/or AutoPIPE Pipe Stress Analysis softwareExperience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADPKnowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients is desirableKnowledge of pipe condition assessment is a plus
