Senior Planner | Major Bids

Downer’s Energy & Utilities team delivers power systems projects nationally, predominately in the transmission and renewable energy sector for both utility and private developers and is seeking an enthusiastic, driven, and highly experienced Senior Planner who is looking to play a part in Australia’s energy transition and decarbonisation efforts. 

In this role you will be a key member of the Energy & Utilities central planning and scheduling team, working within a functional matrix organisational structure you will be exposed to all sectors covered by Energy & Utilities, e.g. transmission lines, substations, battery systems, water treatment plants, gas & water networks, power station and process plant shutdowns and overhauls, providing a pathway for personal growth and career development.

Your exceptional, and tangible, construction and site experienced gained on previous major transmission line projects will see you initially deployed onto major transmission line bids and tenders where your ability to work with minimal direction and limited data will play an instrumental part in ensuring commercial and delivery risks are identified and controlled during the development of the tenders. 

This full-time permanent role can be based in a variety of locations throughout Australia including Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane.  

In addition to the standard role responsibilities of a Downer E&U Senior Planner some key responsibilities specific to tender planning include: 

Prepare and develop detailed project timelines and schedules to reflect delivery of the defined scope of work in accordance with defined constraints and draft contract obligations.  Collaborate with the estimating team to accurately assess the time, resources and cost required for a successful project completion.  Work closely with the bid team, delivery manager, construction personnel, and technical experts to gather relevant information and ensure all aspects of the proposal align to the project scope.  Review supplier/subcontractor schedules submitted with RFQs to confirm quality & completeness and provide input to project team/ bid team on schedule impact Identify & confirm head contract obligations and requirements with a time, or schedule reporting, impact are incorporated in the schedule and Basis of Schedule (BoS) Transfer Candy estimate to schedule activities, for both quantities and hours to cost/ effort load the tender schedule Code the schedule in preparation for Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA) and ensure alignment with tender R&O register alignment Confidently develop the tender schedule with minimal input from others or without a construction methodology Provide direct resources (labour & equipment) histograms, based on the P6 schedule, to confirm the estimate. Ensure compliance with The Downer Standard and the Energy & Utilities Proejct Controls Standard.

ABOUT YOU

Prior experience in the construction/ delivery of transmission line projects is essential  10 to 15 + years in a planning role on projects working for various industry sectors preferably or a senior specialist for an industry sector Proficient planning software skills including Primavera P6 (essential) and MS Project. Excellent knowledge and understanding of CPM scheduling concepts and delay analysis techniques Good commercial acumen and a sound understanding of risk management High levels of verbal and written communications skills. Power BI knowledge and working experience. Ability to visit multiple site locations including interstate travel when required.   High quality administrative skills and strong attention to detail. Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
