Our Community Development | Whakamana i te taiao team enables sustainable infrastructure that works for our communities. Our team of planners, landscape architects, environmental scientists, stakeholder engagement consultants and engineers plan, design and deliver the infrastructure and places that make our communities great. From wastewater treatment and discharge consents to urban transport routes and streetscapes, District Plan reviews to urban regeneration strategies, our planning work touches on all aspects of people’s lives.
Our workload is growing, and we are looking for a Senior or Principal Planner to help work with our clients to enable the infrastructure they need. We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated and thrives on the opportunity to develop strong client relationships, manage projects and to further grow our workload and our Community Development | Whakamana i te taiao team.
About the role
We are looking to recruit a Senior Planner or Principal Planner into our Ōtepoti | Dunedin office, who has a proven track record in providing professional planning and resource management advice to internal and external clients.
In more detail the role involves:
· Lead and manage technical Planning projects
· Manage the preparation of statutory planning applications and documents
· Lead and/or participate in community and stakeholder consultation work
· Lead, coordinate and programme multi-disciplinary project teams
· Prepare evidence for first order Council hearings and / or Environment Court proceedings and appear as an expert witness
· Participate in sharing knowledge of statutory planning with other team members and colleagues in other disciplines
· Maintain and improve technical standards in resource management planning and resource management
· Support the development of new clients and business opportunities for Stantec
· Assist project managers to ensure that projects meet or exceed client and Stantec expectations
To be successful in this role you will need
· A relevant planning qualification
· Full membership of the NZPI (or eligibility to apply)
· Broad resource management planning experience – at least eight years practice (Senior)
· A strong working knowledge of National, Regional and District Planning frameworks
· Experience of infrastructure consenting and related policy development is desirable.
· The ability to respond effectively to client needs and establish and maintain positive relationships
· Established professional networks and/or proven business development skills
· Effective communication skills are a must as are problem solving and negotiation skills
· Expert baseline skills, i.e.: professional and confident with the essential, basic technical. business and communication skills that are required for career growth.
· Familiarity with the Otago and Southland regions would be an advantage.
