Build Platform owns creating the build system and tooling that supports our AV and AI developers.  We utilize Bazel in front of an in-house Remote Bazel Executor (RBE) and Content Addressable Storage (CAS) to provide a world-class build experience at Cruise.  Our team is constantly on the lookout for optimizations and new tooling that improves our product.

 

Our developers are heavy users of C++ and Python, and we are responsible for the toolchains, dynamic and static analyzers, tooling, and workflows that allow them to quickly write high quality code.  Improvements and optimizations by Build Platform have outsized impacts on the pace of Cruise development.

 

What you’ll be doing:

Design and implement improvements to our AV development toolchains, build system, and services which have a measurable and direct impact on engineering productivity.

Collaborate with engineers across the company to understand and support their development workflow.

Own technical projects from start to finish and be responsible for major technical decisions and tradeoffs.

Effectively participate in team’s planning, code reviews and design discussions.

Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment where immediate impact is a result of your efforts and where your contribution is highly visible.

Drive software engineering best practices both within our team and across engineering.  Create tooling that encourages and supports these practices.

Conduct technical interviews with well-calibrated standards

Be a positive contributor to our team culture.

 

What you must have:

5+ years experience, with work on large-scale build systems preferred

Experience working on developer tooling, build systems, C++, Python, etc.

Experience driving impactful projects independently

Attention to detail, and a desire to improve processes & systems around you

Have an understanding of the business and operational impact for different technology tradeoffs

Passionate about self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world

 

Bonus Points!

Experience programming with C++ or Python

Experience with compiler toolchain integrations (Clang, GCC, NVCC, etc)

Experience supporting Python interpreters, and related tools (pyright, etc)

Experience with build systems such as Bazel or Buck

Experience with Docker

Experience working with cloud infrastructure

 

The salary range for this position is $142,800 - $210,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
