Senior Power and Thermal Software Development Engineer
Job Description

We are looking for someone who is passionate working hands-on technically with internal and external teams to deliver impactful Fleet and Scale software that are in high demand by our Data Center customers. You will be part of a team chartered to build Customer Fleet and Scale Capabilities for Data Center/Server customers to enable on-time high-quality launches of Intel server programs, as well as in-Fleet product experience. You must be a quick learner, results oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.

As a Senior Power/Thermal Software Engineer, you will play an integral role in developing cutting-edge Customer Fleet Health software capabilities for Intel Server products. In this highly specialized position, you will be tasked with the development and maintenance of platform full-stack power and thermal stress and power telemetry software. You will be accountable for the software development, validation, and debug of power and thermal capabilities and will closely collaborate with hardware engineering, power design engineering, and platform validation throughout the entire server program development cycle. You will tackle complex, data center-scale problems, providing crucial insights and solutions to influence customer debugging, validation processes, and overall program strategies, ensuring Intel maintains its edge in delivering superior server solutions.

The primary responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to:

Develop and maintain power diagnostic and thermal analysis tools to ensure optimal Intel Server performance.

Define, develop, and drive critical power and thermal stress workloads across platforms and software, and develop a roadmap for the integration of power management across different platforms within a product stack.

Develop, measure, analyze, and debug workloads to identify and mitigate power and performance gaps.

Extend system-level power delivery workload capabilities, including power-up and down analysis.

Collaborate with internal customer-focused teams and/or directly with customers to replicate and debug power and thermal issues; provide impact assessment of functional bugs on performance; work with IP, SoC, and software engineering teams to enable continuous improvement in platform engineering methodologies.

Develop innovative power and thermal solutions for various workloads to optimize stress workloads to support TDP/nTDP, power states such as Pmax, and Turbo Check.

Drive and develop stress workloads across High-Speed Link I/O, targeting UPI links between processors, the memory links (DDR), and PCIe/CXL links. Screen and stress memory subsystems of the platform.

Fine-tune register settings, improve software data path flows, and drive telemetry analysis.

Perform platform-level debug to identify root causes and resolve all functional and triage failures for power and thermal issues.

Regular, direct customer engagement throughout the development cycle of server programs, from initial power on of customer platforms, through the life of the product in the fleet.

A successful candidate will have proven experience demonstrating the following skills and behavioral traits:

Requires software design and methodology skills commensurate with the ability to architect and design tools whose breadth spans from low-level hardware interfacing to User Experience considerations.

Hardware skills (Microarchitecture/Memory/IO/Power and Thermal) with the ability to both create new code as well to understand and debug within an existing large and complex code base.

Skilled in Xeon performance monitoring tools and hardware hooks.

Familiarity with thermal and power customer validation and debug use models.
