Job Description:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Power Electronics Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of innovative power system architectures and solutions. This position involves working on a broad spectrum of applications, including miniature power conversion systems, distributed power architecture, battery management, motor controllers, and precision feedback systems. The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will play a key role in advancing the technical capabilities of the company by developing cutting-edge technologies in power systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to): Design and develop power system architectures for a variety of applications. Conduct research and development, including testing of hardware (i.e., power conversion circuitry, distributed power architecture, and radiation-hardened designs). Optimize system designs to reduce size, weight, and power consumption. Create and refine product designs, as well as develop technical specifications for production. Analyze hardware configurations and validate hardware performance against specifications. Cultivate strong internal and external relationships to enhance cross-functional collaboration. Independently drive solutions to complex engineering challenges, including clarifying unclear or incomplete requirements and adapting to evolving needs. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in power electronics, providing advanced design leadership for complex systems. Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation and technical assessments. Identify technical risks at the program or system level and develop and execute risk mitigation strategies. Manage multi-disciplinary engineering tasks, communicate progress to leadership, and work with teams to meet project goals. Mentor less experienced engineers by developing and promoting best practices for power electronics design and development. Document and communicate design processes, findings, and solutions clearly and concisely. Perform additional duties as required to support team and project needs. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master's degree is preferred). 5-7 years of relevant experience in power systems engineering or a related discipline. Expertise in one or more of the following: isolated and non-isolated DC/DC power conversion, rectification/inversion, battery management systems, motor controller design, system-level power distribution, and EMC design techniques. Proficient in the design, troubleshooting, and optimization of power electronics systems. Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit simulation (e.g., Spice or similar tools). Strong system modeling and analysis skills, utilizing tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or other comparable software. Solid understanding of applied mathematics, physics, and engineering principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent organizational and attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document designs and technical processes thoroughly. Due to the nature of the work, an active Secret clearance is strongly preferred. Strong candidates without an active clearance will be considered but must be able to obtain a secret clearance upon starting this role. Candidates must be a United States Citizen.
