About this career opportunity

This role sits in our West Climate and sustainability Services Group which exists to incubate the skills we need to take action against the Climate and Biodiversity crises. We are using Arup's influence with Clients, Governments and across society to deliver positive outcomes for people, nature and places.

Due to the recent significant project wins our Environment Team has a need for a knowledgeable and proactive Environmental Consultant at Senior or Principal Grade to work delivering and managing projects and helping to grow our Environment Consulting Business.  The position is to work within our Climate and Sustainability Services group in the West, based in either our Bristol, Cardiff or Winchester office (please note we are planning to relocate our Winchester office to a new office in central Southampton in 2024).  You will provide management of environmental assessments for projects at all stages and across sectors. Clients include public sector authorities and other infrastructure provides ranging in scale, from single sites to large infrastructure. This role relates to specific opportunities in the Water Sector, including the delivery of strategic resource options as well as AMP 8 programmes and work for Flood Risk Management Authorities, but opportunities also exist to promote growth in the Energy sector. You will be working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment with other specialists and will direct environmental disciplines (both internal and external to Arup) to deliver high quality environmental consultancy services. You will undertake technical work as well as assist with proposal preparation and marketing activities. You will be accountable for:

Functional management of environmental impact assessment in project delivery – this will involve managing the assessment process and technical teams and taking charge for all inputs through all stages of the process as well as technical environmental assessments. Influence project development through environmental roles at all stages of project delivery through feasibility, design, consent and construction management. Project management activities including programming and budget control, ensuring commercial success from the environmental discipline perspective.

You will have deep knowledge of environmental legislation. You will be supported to shape the role around your strengths, and the following behaviors will promote your success in this role:

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people with:

Relevant Educational background and experience of EIA in a UK context. Ability to drive exceptional project outcomes. Member of an appropriate professional body – this could include the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or equivalent. Chartered status is desirable and is required for the principal role. Knowledge of the UK water sector would be beneficial.
