The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an independent, motivated and resourceful Senior Principal Metrology Characterization Engineer for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located outside of Baltimore, Maryland - where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs.

Our multidisciplinary foundry team enables activities from development to sustainment process engineering. ATL is responsible for all aspects of semiconductor technology including design, mask making, wafer fabrication, test, and assembly. The candidate must be a strong team participant, have excellent communication skills, and be resourceful and multitalented. A strong understanding of semiconductor technology and metrology engineering is essential.
The Senior Principal Metrology Characterization Engineer should possess extensive knowledge of thin film metrology, optical image review techniques and practices. The selected candidate should have an aptitude for data analysis, technology development, and demonstrate an ability to communicate well with others and work equally well independently and as part of a team.
The Senior Principal Metrology Characterization Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to:
Maintaining, existing, and developing new in-line metrology recipes and techniques for metrology and characterization tools. Writing and maintaining process documentation, including development of new process standards and documentation. Partner with vendors and equipment engineers to drive existing and future tools to meet foundry and program needs. Supporting statistical process control (SPC), continuous improvement efforts, and the management and dissemination of metrology data. Mentoring and training of new and junior engineers on metrology and characterization tools while acting as a designated team lead for the team.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 9years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 7years of experience or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 4years of relevant experience.
Hands on experience with semiconductor fabrication equipment
Hands-on experience with Metrology equipment (such as CD SEMs, profilometers, Raman Spectroscopy)
Experience working in a cleanroom environment for extended periods of time
Knowledge of statistical process control
Acted as a technical lead in prior experiences
US Citizenship required
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in lean manufacturing practices and structured problem-solving methodology
Data analysis and visualization (JMP)
Formal team leadership experience
Experience developing technical specifications for equipment procurement
Experience utilizing KLA, Advanced Materials (AMAT) equipment
Experience coordinating with vendors

Salary Range: $127,000.00 - $190,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
