What Your Job Will Be Like: Are you passionate about promoting a safe and healthy work environment? Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a highly motivated Safety Engineer to join our team of safety experts. You will report directly to the Safety and Health Engineering I Manager in Department 04623 and will integrate safety into planning, design, construction, inspections, and work practices across Sandia’s dynamic research, development, industrial, and construction operations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and a solid technical and administrative background. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Conduct and document safety walks and site audits to coach and educate leaders and workers on safe work practices, proactively identifying safety issues and implementing corrective actions. + Develop, implement, and maintain subcontractor and construction safety policies in response to business needs, legal changes, and best practices. + Provide expert advice on safe work practices for all areas of construction, including electrical safety and control of hazardous energy. + Assist leaders and employees with Job Hazard Analysis/Risk Assessment for advanced or unique operations, activities, and equipment. + Provide safety support during winter shutdowns and weekends as needed. + Participate in safety meetings with general contractors and other trade groups. + Support investigations of accidents and significant near misses to determine root causes, corrective actions, and shared learning. + Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures as needed. + Collaborate with the Department of Energy (DOE) to resolve site safety concerns and issues. + Deliver safety training to current employees and new hires. + Engage with the Sandia and DOE safety community. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Salary Range: $85,100 - $193,600 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a relevant field, plus (5) years of related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job. + Strong construction safety background and experience interpreting and applying safety standards and electrical codes (OSHA 29 CFR 1910, OSHA 29 CFR 1926, NFPA 70E, NEC, etc.). + Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online software solutions used for Safety & Training. + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance. Qualifications We Desire: + Proven positive, professional, and approachable attitude that showcases ability to effectively interface with coworkers and subcontractors conducting work at SNL. + Strong oral and written communication skills and a commitment to teamwork. + Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP), and/or Registered Professional Electrical Engineer License (PE). + Experience developing and delivering instructional courses focused on safety. + Knowledge of regulations and codes pertaining to electrical safety and procedures for qualifying equipment not tested by a nationally recognized testing laboratory. + Ability to support research and development activities such as pulsed power, instrumentation/calibration, high voltage-low current, and manufacturing activities. + Effective collaboration skills to create win-win solutions with internal and external partners. + Innovative problem-solving abilities to evolve or create new solutions. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines. + Current DOE Q-level security clearance. About Our Team: The Safety and Health Engineering department provides the tools and expertise to evaluate and control occupational hazards, ensuring that Sandia National Laboratories meets worker safety and health requirements. Our team is responsible for a diverse set of occupational safety and health programs, including Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, Laser Safety, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout, and Hearing Conservation, among others.
