Daikin Applied is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer III (Thermal Systems) who will lead technology development and modular product architecture in the Refrigeration Subsystem

Location: Hybrid, Plymouth, MN or Staunton, VA

What you will do:

Lead New Technology Introduction of refrigeration subsystem-based solutions into chiller applications using engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanical analysis. Leading and contributing to the technology and design in the following areas: Vapor compression refrigeration systems and cycles Refrigerants and lubricants Refrigerant flow control devices Heat exchanger technology (shell and tube, microchannel, round tube plate fin, braze plate, etc.) sizing and performance analysis Unit controls design and validation: sequence of operation, control algorithms, & associated control devices Develop and ownership of a product-based modular strategy for the refrigeration subsystems (all components and modules containing refrigerant). This will include working with the New Product Implementation (NPI) engineers throughout the organization to ensure the relevant subsystems are designed with appropriate requirements, interfaces, and interactions to achieve specific chiller functions Provide technical leadership as an internal Subject Matter Expert in Thermal System Lead and mentor junior engineering team members in the development of Thermal System competency Support cross-functional groups to effectively deploy new technologies through smooth transitions into production Participate in design reviews to ensure best design practices are followed and alert the product team to any risks associated with the design of Thermal Systems and their components Represent the company's interests in external technical groups (i.e. ASHRAE, ASME, University consortia, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum 4-year degree in engineering or related technical field and minimum 7 years of engineering experience Experience with the thermodynamics of chiller systems, heat transfer, pressure vessel design, vapor compression technology and refrigerant systems performance analysis Excellent communication and organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills and a “team-player” mentality Desire to learn and develop world class chiller knowledge Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Candidate must be driven with a high attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

MS or PhD degree in engineering or a related technical field
