Senior Production Engineer

 

Position Description:

The Senior Production Engineer bridges the gap between the Mining Operations and Technical Services teams. This role mentors and coaches Planners in drill/blast planning, development planning, and short-term scheduling. The primary responsibility is to ensure that plans created by the Technical Services team are operationally viable and align with the company's objectives. The Senior Production Engineer will oversee the translation of these plans into actionable short-term plans, monitor plan compliance, identify deviations, and devise strategies for mitigation.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Promote safety in the workplace and demonstrating a personal commitment to safety by identifying and addressing hazards, participating in improving safety and ensuring all reporting requirements are completed. Coordination of the operations and technical services team to facilitate the compilation of high-quality short-term schedules (7+21). Coordinate the preparation of drill/blast and development designs to facilitate schedules. Regular underground inspections to ensure plans and designs are relevant and practical. Responsible for the review of weekly mine plans for the underground operation, ensuring all key mining physicals are achieved in line with the 3 month mine plan. Work closely with mine operations to ensure the plan is executed in a safe and efficient manner. Engage and liaise with the operations team on a regular basis to achieve plan compliance. Provide support with managing and prompting efficient corrective actions for non-conformance. Review engineering designs and planning to ensure that all necessary safety requirements are met. Review stope concept designs to ensure safe and efficient production plans are created. Review drill/blast and development designs. Drive the development and implementation of procedures and systems, and review as required. Provide project management leadership and/or act as the lead on studies and projects. Identify areas for continuous improvement and establish improvement projects and coordinate improvement projects. Cultivate and coordinate a high-performance environment to assist in the development and mentoring of direct reports and peers. Provide technical services leadership over weekends for other engineering departments (survey, ventilation, ground control).

 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or a degree/diploma in related field. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an underground mining environment post-graduation. Experience in a mechanized underground mine is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mining software such as Deswik. Strong understanding of underground mining practices, especially longhole stoping with paste backfill. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. Experience in various stages of underground operations, including ventilation, development, backfill, production, scheduling, and drill & blast. Exceptional communication skills with a solution-focused mindset and a track record of high-quality work ownership. Fluent in English (oral and written).
