The Senior Production Underwriter, Commercial Insurance will be responsible for establishing relationships, driving sales and placing profitable business in the region and beyond. Using specialized knowledge and expertise in products and the industry, the Production Underwriter will deliver strategic client growth, recommend, and implement profitable action plans, and develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers. Demonstrated success at strategic thinking, hustle, and sales is critical. This role supports our Calgary-based Commercial Property & Casualty team servicing the Prairies.
Job Responsibilities
Sales: Strategic Business Development and Product Innovation
Identifies new growth opportunities with key brokers and ensures they are qualified and meet the organization's appetiteDevelop broker clientele by networking to identify new clients and generate lists of prospective focus brokersConduct marketing visits to build broker relationships and advertise B&W offeringsMaintain existing broker relationships to solicit renewals and generate new businessDevelop marketing strategies to compete with other companiesUtilize other Burns & Wilcox offices via referrals to place businessEnsure prompt and courteous client service is provided to all agents and brokersWork collaboratively with other Underwriters on the team to develop ownership of a book of regional business
Underwriting: Analyzing Risk and Placing Business
Maintain knowledge of carriers’ underwriting guidelines and/or brokerage marketsObtain adequate underwriting information for quoting, binding, and issuingReview coverage requirements, prices, and conditionsNegotiate prices, terms, and conditionsSubmit quality submissions to marketsProvide consultation to brokers regarding differences between quotes and coveragesPromptly review inspections to verify quality of riskEnsure all files are documented properly to avoid potential E&O’sMaintain carrier relationshipsStay abreast of underwriting practices and maintain licenses and certificationsQualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experienceCIP or equivalent industry experienceProvincial License or eligibility for obtainingHigh Industry Participation5+ years of Commercial Insurance experienceStrong underwriting expertise strongly preferredDemonstrated ability to craft and execute strategic marketing plans Strong knowledge of domestic and international Commercial markets
