Senior Project Engineer - Flight Simulation & Training (Onsite)

The Simulation & Training Solutions (STS) Defense Systems Engineering department seeks a Project Engineer (PE) to work with a team of engineers in an Agile environment for the development of new and exciting simulation systems and products. The PE serves as the single point of contact for coordinating risks and opportunities on large scale project developments. This position is responsible to work with technical and project leadership to plan, mitigate, track, and communicate across the project team regarding any risks that may impact the overall performance of the project.  In addition, this position is responsible to monitor and help achieve any opportunities in the project.

Position Description: 

The candidate will work with senior principal, principal and senior engineers in the execution of complex systems and projects; this position has a focus towards the management of risks and opportunities of the systems and projects.  The candidate will work with the program manager (VSL) and engineering leads to develop the program execution plan and plan for risk mitigations and achieving opportunities to meet budget goals, maintain predictable schedule performance, and meet all customer technical requirements.  The candidate must have demonstrated application of integrated project management, technical consistent process, earned value/cost account management, and risk managements for one or more programs in highly complex software and hardware/electrical projects.  The candidate will report risk and opportunities status to program management, leadership, and the engineering team as warranted.

The candidate will be expected to spend a significant portion of their time in a technical role in evaluation and analysis of mitigation plans for the risks; likewise on the drive to achieve opportunities within the project execution. The candidate should show the ability to unleash energy within a team through passion, enthusiasm, and leadership.  This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with Executive

Leadership, Program Managers and Operations Managers across all business areas within Collins Aerospace. In addition to communication with those functional areas, the candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to create and leverage powerful networks to get the job done. This position is located onsite at our Sterling, VA location.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required Must be a U.S. CitizenActive and transferable U.S. government issued Secret Security clearance or higher is required prior to start dateAbility to travel up to 15% of the time

The salary range for this role is 85,000 USD - 179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
