Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction, plans, coordinates design and manages various construction and building renovation projects for University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health valued up to and in excess of 10 million dollars.  Works directly with Senior Hospital Leadership on larger projects.  Assists with operational responsibilities to assure compliance with FGI, TJC, and OSHA standards. Accountable for 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

Education & Training:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in architecture, engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience is required.

Work Orientation & Experience:

A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Healthcare architecture, engineering, or construction management is required. Demonstrated knowledge of architectural design concepts, general engineering concepts and construction is required. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to operate and use a personal computer to include advanced use of Excel, Power Point and Word to enhance daily job requirements.

Skills & Abilities:

Must possess management decision making abilities.  Ability to work independently and meet established deadlines while managing multiple skills and functions.  Responsible for maintaining quality standards of the trade by keeping current on changes, new and upcoming regulations, standards and TJC requirements and in turn offering technical guidance, suggestions and expertise to the project team to ensure successful outcomes. Ability to develop and maintain a project documentation system including but not limited to:  as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, shop drawing log, regulatory compliance, project costs, etc.  Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal are necessary for effective communication with architects, engineers, UM UCH leadership/staff and contractors regarding gathering and reporting on statuses and resolving problems.  Ability to regularly maneuver/ambulate successfully in all work areas, crawl space manholes and on roofs, and ability to climb ladders and scaffolding to monitor and inspect work in order to identify problems and propose solutions.
