UPDATE 5/11:• 3-5 years IT experience and understanding of IT infrastructure projects such as data center operations, build outs and migrations, call center technologies, networks, servers, mainframe systems, distributed systems, Internet/Intranet protocols.  Very little software development project management needed.  The focus is on infrastructure.  90% infrastructure, 10% software development

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

Project Managers initiate, plan, execute, control and close projects within defined scope, cost and schedule parameters utilizing established best practices. This includes obtaining commitment of resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

1. Project Delivery

• Delivers the most complex internal, cross-segment and enterprise projects on time and within budget

• Defines project scope, objectives and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with project sponsors and key stakeholders

• Delivers on requirements by understanding and balancing the competing demands for project scope, time, cost, risk, and quality

• Identifies the resources and participants and estimates effort required to achieve project goals

• Manages projects that involve complex objectives and have multiple cross-site/cross-functional sponsors, owners and/or team members

• Develops full-scale project plans and associated project management documentation

• Applies expert level understanding of the PMBOK knowledge areas and key processes

• Fosters an environment conducive to delivery of high-quality products and problem-free implementations using documented, repeatable best practices and procedures

• Understands and complies with established corporate and IT standards and methodologies including, but is not limited to, financial, ITIL, security, audit, SOX and configuration management

• Displays working knowledge of differing types of projects (e.g. technology, vendor selection, business process)

2. Communication and Organization

• Ensures effective communication across the complex project team and key stakeholders

• Effectively establishes, communicates and continually manages project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion

• Effectively interacts with all levels of management

• Ensures that a thorough understanding of stakeholder communication needs is integrated into the project planning process

• Effectively delivers tough messages to executives, key stakeholders, team members and peers

• Fully understands the appropriateness of different types of communication (memo, letter, report, etc.) and different media types (formal, written, voice, e-mail, face-to-face, etc.) when presenting information one-on-one or in groups

• Fosters an environment which encourages clear communication across multiple sites and functional areas

• Coaches, mentors, motivates and supervises project team members and contractors, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work

3. Project Management Effectiveness

• Provides effective leadership to project teams

• Provides an appropriate level and of style of management for the project team

• Builds effective teams

• Delegates tasks and responsibilities to appropriate owners

• Ask questions that bring out ideas and stimulates discussion

• Identifies and resolves conflicts within the project team

• Drives issues to resolution using escalation where appropriate

• Proactively manages changes in project scope

• Identifies potential risks, and develops effective response plans

• Translates terminology between technical and non-technical staffs

• Utilizes a variety of reward and recognition methods to motivate team members

• Effectively utilizes the company standard project management tools

• Shows consistency among principles, values and behavior and demonstrates honesty and integrity

4. Operational Excellence

• Looks for opportunities within the department to make continuous improvements in key processes, techniques and procedures, enhancing the department’s ability to meet customer needs

• Stays abreast of knowledge of industry practices and trends

RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS

While this position has no direct reports, project managers are responsible for orchestrating the work of others to successfully deliver projects.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

While this position has no direct financial responsibility, project managers are responsible for monitoring, tracking, and reporting on financial activity related to their projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 5+ Years Project Management Experience

• At least 3-5 Years IT Experience and conceptual understanding of IT infrastructure, data center operations, mainframe systems, distributed systems, Internet/Intranet and networks is required.  Infrastructure PM experience is vital to this role.

• Experience in a PMO environment

• Ability to manage projects with high complexity

• Experience managing teams of up to 25 members

• PMP Certification is required to be considered at the Sr. PM level.  If someone is not PMP Certified, they will be considered at the PM II level, and salary would commensurate based on that level.

• Level of knowledge acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in IT related area
