**Job Description:**
This position is for Practice Area Leader of our Building Enclosure Practice Group (BEPG) in the Houston North Loop office (HNL) of Terracon’s Facilities Division. The ideal candidate will have some general experience or knowledge with each of the Building Enclosure sub-practice areas, including Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx), Testing, and Scanning and Imaging. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have good familiarity with most building enclosure assemblies, including roofing, exterior walls, fenestrations, coatings, and waterproofing systems. This position aligns with the Terracon position of Group Manager, which oversees a specialty service line that may include a small number of employees.
This position is a crucial part of the HNL leadership team. Terracon has prioritized this position as a strategic move toward accelerated growth for the HNL and BEPG in the Texas market. During this growth period, this role will include the responsibilities of a Senior Project Manager on proposals and projects, especially projects of complexity.
While the HNL office supports flexible work/home scheduling, office leaders are generally expected to be present in the office a minimum of 3 days a week. These expectations are adaptive and subject to coordination with external commitments, project workload, office responsibilities, and the needs of direct reports and other BEPG or HNL staff.
**PRACTICE AREA LEADER**
+ Supervise the daily operations of the BEPG including staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and adherence to policies and procedure.
+ With support from the Department/Office Manager (OM), prepare and execute annual business plan for the BEPG.
+ With support from the OM, oversee and manage the success of the key BEPG metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
+ Support the growth and development of Terracon at all levels, following our corporate values and generally aligning with the company objectives and services in the Corporate Strategic Plan.
**STAFF**
+ Monitor chargeability and forecasted workload for BEPG staff. Work with OM and other Practice Area Leaders to support HNL workload and maintain chargeability goals.
+ With support from the OM, lead, develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and onboarding to support workload and growth initiatives.
+ Develop, support, and track support individual growth plans for BEPG staff.
+ Identify cross-training opportunities for BEPG staff.
+ Empower and delegate BEPG staff to support BEPG and HNL initiatives.
+ Develop and support sub-practice area leaders as needed.
**BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT**
+ With the support of OM and Office Business Development Coordinator (BDC) perform business and client development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.
+ Support the BDC in HNL support of external business development activities.
**MARKETING**
+ Work with office BDC and region marketing staff to develop BEPG specific project profiles and service sell sheets.
+ Produce and maintain project profiles including project information databases for completed projects.
**SAFETY/IIF**
+ Lead safety efforts for BEPG and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Be responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrate safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
+ Be an office leader for Terracon Safety practices.
+ With support from the OM, monitor safety metrics for the BEPG and HNL to meet published goals.
+ Ensure that BEPG Staff holds and maintains appropriate safety certifications to perform required tasks, and follows all lifesaving absolutes (LSA).
+ Perform regular site-safety check-ins and coaching on BEPG staff to meet or exceed HNL goals.
+ Work with HNL Office Safety Coordinator as required to respond to office and external initiatives.
**CORPORATE ENGAGEMENT**
+ Ensure that the HNL BEPG is participating in corporate initiatives and using corporate resources.
+ Ensure that the HNL BEPG is represented in the Service Line BEPG, to include active participation and leadership.
+ Ensure that the HNL BEPG is represented in the appropriate service line Task Groups.
**PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND DELIVERY**
+ Monitor all projects in progress in the BEPG to ensure that work is executed on time and in accordance with the client’s requirements and within company policies, procedures and standards.
+ Lead project management on large and complex projects, including projects with multiple FAC practice areas and/or multiple Service Lines.
+ Perform and/or support BEPG staff in the support of project delivery:
+ Work with clients and internal resources to define project scopes, schedules and budget.
+ Supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing to achieve desired profitability.
+ Lead interactions with client and stakeholders to ensure their goals are being considered in execution of the work.
+ Design, communicate, and implement a project plan for completing a project.
+ Lead safety efforts including preparation and compliance with approved safety plan.
+ Resolve operational problems and minimize delays.
+ Identify, develop, and gather necessary resources to complete the project.
+ Prepare designs and work specifications; develop schedules, budgets and forecasts; select materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors.
+ Identify the need for standards to support workflow.
+ Estimate costs, resources, and time required to complete a project.
+ Prepare forecasts for expenditures and manages scope, schedule to meet budget.
+ Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to ensure targets are met.
+ Partner with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.
+ Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team.
+ Coach and mentor project staff and assist them to solve problems.
+ Coordinate with Authorized Project Reviewers (APRs) to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for quality reviews
+ Coordinates with accounting for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing and collections
+ Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.
**Preferred Certifications:**
+ Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), or similar professional registration/certification relevant to the type of services and projects being managed
+ Industry Certifications including RRC, RRO, RWC, RWO, REWC, REWO, BECxP, CxA+BE desired
+ Authorized Project Reviewer status preferred.
